Thank God Sony has other means of money coming in. The PS3 is sucking up so much money so fast ...

How do you know that is sold to retailers and not just shipped out of their factories to some warehouse somewhere?

"To Sony, shipped has always meant 'sold' and shipped to retailers,'" Karakker notes. "Microsoft views 'sold' as what has been sold to retailers but could be sitting on pallets in warehouses or stacked on store shelves. 'Sold' to Sony has always meant what the consumer has actually purchased." http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=93548

Interesting. Somebody's not telling the truth here, but honestly, I have no idea who it is.

that was the truth.

unlike MS who exaggerates their sales figures.

10.4 million units by dec,2006??????

we are in 2007 and MS has yet to reach 10 m units sold.

As of March 31st

5.5m PS3 produced

3.6m sold to retailers

~3.0m sold to customers

600,000 on shelves, 1.9 million in warehouses.

By the way, larry, if you want people to believe you (which very few do), you might want to post links for proof. No one can find these numbers you keep spouting. They seem to be dreamed up.

Got to love the Sony fanboys that make a habit of getting the facts wrong.

Further corroboration:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,131891-c,companynews/article.html

The shipment numbers count consoles as they leave Sony's factories and include those in warehouses and en route to retailers. The number of consoles sold to retailers stood at around 3.6 million, said Oneda.

hey cut the crap.

To SONY shipped means what is sold to retailers. SOLD to sony means what is sold to consumers.

To MS sold means the consoles which are sold to retailers and not consumers.

this is why they claimed to have sold 10.4 million units last year when there were just 9 million sold to retailers worldwide.

BTW who is ONEDA ??????

why would we believe his/her words.

you can go to online website of SONY and check the meaning of the shipment figures .

NOTE:- on arpril 12th SONY claimed that they shipped 6 m units.google for the info

Oneda is the SONY Chief Financial Officer, probably the #3 man in all of Sony. Are you saying we shouldn't believe him in a statement he made at an official earnings conference?

Seriously Larry, how many times in a day are you going to make a fool of yourself?

Oneda would be Sony Corp's CFO, stud.

As in the guy who controls the entire finances of Sony Corp.

As in a really, really powerful guy.

As in the third or fourth most powerful man in the company.

If you trust the official word of Sony, you should trust what Oneda says in an official financial statement.

You do realize that he could go to jail if he lied on that statement, right? It's the one that goes to stockholders.

Larry, just stop. You are making a complete fool out of yourself.

Here is the direct quote from the financial report:

Production shipments of hardware and software units are counted upon shipment of the products from manufacturing bases. Sales of such products are recognized when the products are delivered to customers.

Manufacturing bases = factory

Customers = Retailers

ONEDA also said 5.5 million units.

but pcworld /some gar**** website reported that a large chunk out of that 5.5 m were at the warehouse which is BS.

The report larry links to says 5.5 million shipped "from manufacturing bases". It is not very clear but it seems that they are counting shipments to their own warehouses in this number. I can't find the 3.1 million number in the report. (Not saying it's not there, but I can't find it.)Â
