Forums - Sony Discussion - Is it possible that The Last Guardian might be.............. boring?

I dindt say anything about story I said art and emotion. And ye the gameplay exists to serve the artistical and emotional aspects of the game, wich ofentimes result in segments where youre just leading Yorda trough a long corridor without anything happening at all, or just riding on Agros backs trough a vast landscape, lots of ppl find that dead boring, if theres no action in theyre games they flip. I on the other hand love all forms of videogames but I understand that Team ICOs games are not for everyone.

I understand what you bring forth, but what I want to point out is that you can like this game as long as you like puzzle games and action adventure because the game is mostly gameplay and that those awesome things you are pointing out: art and emotion come through experiencing the gameplay which still takes the center stage. The emotion and art in ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are the "how" the gameplay is experienced, instead of what the game is about.

There is always a possibility that this game will end up boring. Or maybe even outright bad.

But whatever the outcome turns out to be, I am sure it will not live up to all the expectations. This game has been a myth for so long, people are bound to be disappointed regardless.

Not for those who know what to expect and do it for the right reasons.

A parallel between those who'll be disappointed with the game is that they're the same who are jumping on Shenmue 3 hype without having much of an experience with those games and will end up disappointed with it too.

I fully agree with this.  Not to many will understand the joys of driving a forklift like those of us who played the original Shenmue back in the day.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I'll be honest I've always slightly doubted this game, I think it will no way near be as good as people are expecting. Obviously I hope I'm proved wrong and it's a 90+ game but I'm expecting 75-80. I know we know barely anything about it so you might think I'm being a bit premature making a meta prediction but it's just been my gut feeling ever since seeing it.

Yeah I don't get why they didn't just pull the plug on it. FFS it's been like 8 years since it was first seen. And it's not like Team ICO games are commercial successes anyways, ICO and SOTC combined sold less than a couple million combined I'm pretty sure. All that development for a game that'll be lucky to hit 1 million is pretty whack.

Yeah, developers should cancel every game that doesn't sell as high as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto franchises. Games are all about sales.

What fantasy world do you live in that sales don't matter?

If it was a smaller budget game then 1 million sales would be fantastic, but for a game like TLG which probably has a huge budget and has taken years and years to get developing...they'd need to sell multiple millions to even break even I bet.

Depends on what you expect from it. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus both have very slow, deliberate pacing. If you approach the Last Guardian expecting a thrilling, pulse pounding, action adventure then you're bound to be disappointed.

What lame gaming world are you wishing for when you want companies to focus on sales when making their games? What is reasonable is for companies to take responsible budgets for creative games and Ueda's games have a very loyal and proved following both commercially and critically.

I want companies to make creative games and not continue cloning what is successful.

Sony re-released the ICO/SOTC collection and it sold very well.

We don't know the game's development cost and you don't know if the development hell in which the game was found was due to the studio halting development for the time being. We don't know how much it will sale either. You are just being pessimistic about the success of a game from which you don't know the budget and call it an upcoming disaster.

I think its mostly people getting excited about the studios last games rather than the demo for TLG. To be honest though, this E3 had quite a few gameplay demos that just didn't showcase games the way they should have been. Tomb Raider was made to look like an extremely linear experience like the order when the behind closed doors demo was anything but according to IGN and the same could be said about the Halo gameplay demo with gameinformer giving us awesome info that wasn't revealed in the campaign demo at E3. However the difference is that there is particularly good impressions coming from behind closed door demos of these games while TLG just had an average gameplay demo that wasn't all that exciting and nothing else telling us it gets better or that there is more to it.

Did this demo make the game look boring? Yeah it did. That doesn't mean the game will be boring however but for the love of god the kid screaming every 10 seconds was completely ridiculous and needs to be removed. It was annoying from a short demo showcased and I can only imagine how annoying it would be playing the game.

It certainly isn't for everyone. Imo, if u liked past ico games, you will like this one but if u didn't, then u wont

Yeah this is pretty much what I'm expecting. Ico and SoTC Collection on PS3 should be pretty cheap now so that would be a good starting place for anyone on the fence with this game.
