I think that under these circusntances the NX will be a flop regardless.

Might have a chance if its a fusion of portable with home console, but even so, without consumer trust Nintendo is done. They would have to bring out that Pokémon MMO.

So if they launched in 2016, all consumer confidence is lost, but if they launch like 8 months later in 2017 ... it's all good?

Video game fans on message boards are more caught up with this nonsense than the normal consumer is, normal people don't count down the months their game hardware is active.

What nonsense is this? When did i say anything about 8 months?

They need another software wave before they move to the next system. Not having that adopters will feel like they didnt have enough for their investment. This can mean more than these 8 months i'm not sure where you pulled from.

I doubt that NX will sell <20M or 50M+. NX will sell 30-50M imo.
In my eyes this is neither a success nor a flop.

If it's enough to sustain nintendo and make a tidy software profit then so be it. In my mind I want all three to be profitable, what I don't want to is an incredibly skewed to one company situation where fans of the other two get screwed over

As long as they all sell well enough we can all be happy

NX will have a tough launch regardless of whether it launches in 2016 or 2020. Nintendo's credibility is shot. They could have taken a page from MS and Sony and at least put out remakes or ports of their classic games for Wii U to keep Wii U owners happy.

However, I'm afraid Nintendo is ticking off everyone; they lost developers, they lost casuals, they lost hardcore gamers, and they're losing fanboys.

If I was Nintendo, I would strike a deal with either Microsoft or Sony where they make exclusive games for their console. Nintendo would fund their own games and get either all, or nearly all of the profit for selling those games. How would Microsoft or Sony benefit? Simple...
They would widen their audience and provide more games for the consumers, which in turn would increase the user base and cause more consumers to buy the games published by Sony/Microsoft.. Even the consumer would win because they could then play Nintendo games without buying their console.
