I consider them to be more "refreshes", much like the new 3ds versus original 3ds,
After all both the SG1000 and master system use the same Ziglog Z80 cpu (though the SG1000 used a clone), and both the Atari 2600 and 5200 are based off of the MOS 6502X family with them being 6502 and 6502C respectively.
Despite the slight name changes both the 6502 and 6502C were capable of using 1-2mhz speed effective, the difference was that the C was customized a little so it could utilized pin 35 and 36 for halt bit and a second read and write.
Very minor differences which really just constitute a remodel more than a complete overhaul.
