So does better graphics and sound equal higher quality ??? Or exellence ??? No not at all, whats quality and exelence in a videogame ??? Whatever it is I doubt you couldn´t find it in the NES or SNES era.

I never sayed gaming went downhill after the 90s, I´m just saying it didn´t get that much better, sure new exciting things have been done, but did they make the video game experiance that much better ??? Are kids today having more fun than kids back then ??? Games are ment to be fun, challenging and entertaining, how can you say games today are more fun challenging or entertaing that back in the 90s ???

If quality is graphics and shaders then I could make a picture of my butt and say it has more quality than the Mona Lisa, but thats just not true (unless you really like my butt :)

This gen doesn't only have superior Graphics and Sound , the games also have better AI , Depth , Life , Replay Value , Multyplayer value , Value in general than they ever did. Like I said before calling 90's titles quality by 90's standard is acceptable , that was their era , their time to shine . This is 2008 dude Super Mario Bros is only "quality" because of the standard it overcame in it's time , if that game had never been created until 2008 I bet it wouldn't even had got past the board room.

As I sayed before, do the superior graphics, sound, AI (which still sucks in most games) and multiplayer value make the games more fun, challenging or entertaining ??? I don´t think so... Oh and how can you say games now have more depth, life and replay falue ??? That is a very subjective thing to say and I don´t agree at all...

Well lets just focus on AI as a comparable criteria. Would I prefer jumping on monsters that move in completley predictable paterns as opposed to combating with multiple animies which ajust their own attack depending on the strategy I choose to pursue. And that's that the begining of this gens AI.

Hmm...choices choices.

@ El Duderino: All other things being equal, do I think a game with better graphics and sound is better than one with inferior graphics and sound? Hell yes, and you'll have a hard time finding someone who would say otherwise. Do you think that they're somehow equal, or that the less pretty one is somehow superior?

Games now are not equal to game back then, back then things like depth of story and free roaming world were something new, today these things don´t impress me as much as back then, all these better graphics and sound don´t impress me as much bacause they are a natural developement, games back then had something much more important: personality and personality goes a long way, is timeless and cannot be improved on.

If you had two kids, lets say they are twinns, would you like the pretty athletic one over the one with personality  ???

So, games don't impress you now as much as they did back then for no discernible reason except "personality" (which is an intellectually lazy argument if I've ever heard one). How is that not nostalgia again?

I'm not even touching the bad analogy.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

The bolded part is the importent one, games will always look sharper and have better sound, but the things that really matter were already done a long time ago, if todays games had their own improvement (or their own personality) I´d give them credit for it, but the large majority of game just takes what was allready there and adds shiny new animations... thats not better thats just lazy...

I sayed personality because games back then made up for their technical disadvantage with creative ideas, style and intelligence, some games today may have that as well but most don´t or just badly copy the great games that already exist.

The older generations focused on quality over quantity since they didn't have much else to work with. I'd say the 5th generation was the greatest for many reasons:

1. It introduced 3-D games on home consoles allowing gameplay quality to increase multiple times over along with better interaction with the game.
2. The quality of sound in video games finally came into a realistic standard instead of just beeps and whistles.
3. Arguably the greatest games of all time came during that era and redefined many genres that even todays and back thens standards cannot touch in terms of innovative and revolutionary. Nintendo alone made games very popular and revolutionary with a lot of new series and ways to enjoy games, but games were 2-D before Nintendo came along. It wasn't until the PS1 came into being where games really started pushing the terms quality, innovative and revolutionary.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

so far SNES,
had the best games I grew up with

PS1 since games on PS1 + N64 were very good.

I'll bump this since people are still voting.
