The bolded part is the importent one, games will always look sharper and have better sound, but the things that really matter were already done a long time ago, if todays games had their own improvement (or their own personality) I´d give them credit for it, but the large majority of game just takes what was allready there and adds shiny new animations... thats not better thats just lazy...
I sayed personality because games back then made up for their technical disadvantage with creative ideas, style and intelligence, some games today may have that as well but most don´t or just badly copy the great games that already exist.
