I'm actually amazed how popular 2D platformers are again.

The last one on consoles was 18 years ago and sold around 3m on N64. Is not like TP, that was only 3/4 years after CR (with a 3ds remake in the middle)

Every Yoshi platformer game is a million seller (except 2 DS spin offs with different mechanics) 

A simple remake of Yoshi´s Island on GBA sold 3m, the original sold +4m on Snes, this is like Yoshi´s Island 2.

Even one of the worst platformer yoshi is a million seller on 3DS

Both IP are equally strong but this one is going to perform way better.

I think the DK's sales were screwed mostly because of a bad timing. I mean, we got a huge marketing of DK 3D just a few weeks before the release of DK Tropical Freeze. It probably ruin the short term sales of the game.

Eventually yes, I mean don't most of Yoshi games get at least a million or close to it life time.

Heck, if Nintendo bundled the Wool Yoshi amiibo with the first 3 million printed copies of the game, it would be the best selling Yoshi game since the original Yoshi's Island on the SNES.
