Funny thing is, this thread is discussing sales, not revenue or profits. Also, it is worth pointing out that the Xbox brand has burned a lot more money than the PS3 ever could.

@OP

It's obvious that the PS4 is succeeding due to the failures of Nintendo and Microsoft more than any other factor. In a lot of places there is essentially zero competition for the PS4.

I thought that the PS3 lost more money than all 3 xboxes combined?

No sir, the Xbox brand burned something to the tune of 6 billion dollars before becoming profitable in 2008. A few years of meager profits and a banner year in 2011 thanks to the success of the Kinect erased less than half of that. With the damage done by the One launch I wouldn't be surprised if the Xbox brand as a whole has lost more than the PS3 launch. When I say the PS3 launch I mean from the disastrous initial product rollout up until profitability, excluding the years spent recouping their losses. As far as I see it, the Xbox brand is a charity that investors only tolerate due to the scale and success of Microsoft as a whole. If Sony were to attempt to carry the Xbox division it would likely destroy them.

Why is Sony winning? Because they released a console that is better in every single way that has games that are better in every single way.

All Hail the Jester King. The King is back, and I am still a dirty girl prof ;)

When you have three competitors in a race and then two shoot themselves in the foot as the starters pistol sounds, the third guy doesn't need to run more than the first ten metres, unless he really wants to.

People naturally gravitate to the better hardware, trustworthy brand and bigger more diverse library.

The PS5 Exists.

Worlds most powerful console that managed to be cheaper than the competitor. No silly gimmicks, great PR from higher resolution games and better visuals and the PS brand is a powerhouse.

It's not that difficult when you consider the PS3 comeback and the domination of PS1 and PS2.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

!00% true.

Sony really does not need to do anything. It's not good marketing, mainstream, or great games. They just won on mistakes made by N and M$.

Just take another look at Sony's E3 2013 Conference. They did not announced any great games, not revolutionary technology. SImply: support for used games, no internet connection required, and much smaller price.

N and M$ just screwed up this generation of consoles.

Nintendo won the other two generations because they stepped in first after the crash. The PSP and vita havent won but they sold way more than who ever tried to do handhelds before (sega, atari).

The Gamegear sold around 11M units.

To 118 million gameboys

Sony is winning the console war because they're Sony.

Because they were out of touch and beat last gen and that humbled them enough to get a console more in line with gamers budgets. But mostly its because Nintendo is out of touch this gen and sadly Xbox had a bad start and it's costing them now, plus MS doesn't have the worldwide support like the Playstation brand does.

Better image from launch, better marketing, btter brand recoginition, better worldwide aproach, better games, better hardware, better cost benefity, more variety in library, more games, etc.

The question should be: Why wouldn't it?

Really? mention 10 great games no third party, and no indie, Full games please
