Do you mean this gen, or in general?

PlayStation has always had a broader global base of support right from PS1.

Even if you look at last gen PS3 ended up winning in 2 sales "territories" as tracked by VG Chartz (Europe, and Rest of World) whereas Wii and 360 each won only one (Japan and NA respectively). And if you break it down by country it means PS3 will have won more individual countries than either Wii or 360 because Europe + rest of world = vastly more countries than NA & Japan. So basically Nintendo and Xbox compete strongly in the 2 (or 3 if you count UK) biggest markets, but PS has the rest of the world.

As a hardware maker Sony is still generally regarded as a producer of quality products. That does matter.

And of course Sony did nothing wrong with the PS4 launch. They didn't necessarily get everything right, and indeed PS4 would have had a much tougher time if MS, especially, hadn't got a few things so terribly wrong.

It's winning because it's a good product. I can't stand that mentality that people suddenly get when they see a console doing so well. Their inner hipster suddenly takes over and they have to nitpick everything they can to find something wrong with the top dog, because they have some childish need to feel unique about their garbage opinions. PS4 is awesome. That's not to say the other 8th gen consoles are somehow bad; they're just not as good.

It was reserved for later. Edited. Here's what i wanted to post earlier.

The playstation brand has a history of providing the best consoles to play video games on all over the world.  It has shown in previous gens that it has the most new IP's, rpg's, exclusives and the most diverse library of games compared to the competition. People are simply buying the newest console with the idea that it will be just like any other playstation console.

The PS4 only needs to deliver on those expectations.

And it will. We all know this. Some people just can't accept it.

its better console than xb1 and wii u

”The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry” (Jack Tretton, 2009)

they have a good history with producing great consoles that win gens also imo have i wide variety of 1st party games now they even have indie support

with the ps4 they struck gold when they announced 8gb gddr ram and a console launch price of 399

it would of been much of the same last gen aswell if they launched yr early or launched when they did but $100 less basically a necessary evil of the bluray player that is now the standard

Blind Faith = Too much brand loyalty

I wondered that too during its first year. o: I was also scratching my head, asking "Whyyy?" o: I think one of my friends says Sony will get great games with time... I'd say it was really good marketing, as well as the competitors self destructing before the race start,

It's not really blind faith when there's actually a history to back it. Playstation has always been the best home console brand. Sure, that's a relative opinion, but the quality has always been there.

I'd say bind faith is more like individuals such as ThaBlackBar0n, and his followers, on youtube, who hear Nintendo is releasing a new game and automatically declare it to be the next mesiah, even if it's not an established franchise.

I saw what you did there, I read the connotations about Splatoon, you don´t need to hide it , and it has nothing to do with that. I had intuition with this game since  day one and... yeah, i was right, and I knew it all the time.

The thing is I wouldn´t  bought a WiiU because "is going to deliver, I´m sure", that is a terrible reason to buy a console, I bought one whe I saw a good amount of games that I wanted on it and some games that were coming in few months, I dont believe long term promises and I don´t fall to the hype of CGI trailers for games that are coming in 2 years, and now, that´s all people is doing, because they want to believe, that´s all.

Sony always deliver, tell that to their new legacy console, PSVita.

Tell that to Ps3, PsP and PSV

Playstation has lead 3 generations on homeconsoles. Nintendo has lead.... 3 generations on homeconsoles and every generation of handhelds (5?), let´s not act like Sony is some kind of mighty king when even sony fans says that PS4 is only winning because the other 2 fucked it up.

Nintendo won the other two generations because they stepped in first after the crash. The PSP and vita havent won but they sold way more than who ever tried to do handhelds before (sega, atari).

The Gamegear sold around 11M units.

And there are many more companies that tried handhelds than those two.
