Forums - Movies & TV - Game of Thrones Season 5 - anyone still watching? Unhidden spoilers ahead!

Hi buddies,

aynone still watching Game of Thrones? By now I don't know what to think about season 5, as season 4 also left me skeptical about what they would show us in this season.

As a huge fan of the books and due to the fact that the series is drifting apart from the books, I get more and more disappointed. I know the scale of the books is too much for the series but where the first two seasons at least tried to cover most parts, they gave up completely on it now, in my opinion. Barristan dies? Even the actor was surprised by this. Why is Sansa getting raped? She didn't get raped in the books, hell she didn't even marry the Bolton bastard.

I think I have to re-adjust my expectations for the whole series now. They left out so many things that I doubt we will get a final ending for both story-lines now, at least I don't see it. No Dragon Horn, the whole Greyjoy party just disappeared completely, and where is the other Targaryen that still lives? I doubt he will appear in the series at all, as Sam will never become a Maester.

That said, the story around the White Walkers is further than what we got from the books and I hope the story they are telling us right now with them is at least to a certain degree "canonical" so that when Martin finishes the next book before Season 6 (as he promised) we won't get something in line from what we got to see by now.

So guys, what's your opinion about Season 5 currently?

I read the books, and haven't yet watched episode 9.

I'm also really disappointed by this season, for the first time since I began this series. Just too much changes compared to the books, and bad ones I think. They took out the politics to add more sex and gore. It's not about the "game of thrones" anymore, just about who have sex or who get killed next.

I hope it will get better, but I don't expect much, I'm mostly waiting for Winds of Winter.

It's getting more interesting but at the same time the story is dangerously dancing into the "White Walkers are the most likeable characters on the show" territory. Seriously, of the show's 20-30 characters, maybe 3 of them right now I'd be sad to see bite the bullet.

worst season ever

theres not even one episode thats good only 15min of episode 8 is worth mentioning.

Considering just how much was going on in season 1 where everything was so fast-forward that many people that didn't read the books couldn't get what this is all about, this season almost nothing happens which I expected as they were close to the "end" of the last book already in season 4 so that's why I hoped they show us more from the Greyjoys, perhaps Bran also a little bit and Loras going to Dragon Stone instead of being in a trial because he is gay. But then they chose to make a season which wants to move from scandal to scandal...

What I liked in the 4th and 5th books (even if they weren't great) were the political wars in Dorne, Meereen, Castle Black and King's Landing (with Kevan!). They ignored almost all of that, and what was a long and subtle political war became "a fight, a sex scene and an one-liner". The characters developments for Jon, Tyrion or Jaime and others were butchered, and I'm not even talking about the non-existent characters. How are they going to do for next season if Winds of Winter release first? Martin already said that some important characters in the books didnt' exist in the series...

I've enjoyed this season so far, you really shouldn't get upset when Television series or films don't follow books directly. It's like people who don't like The Dark Knight trilogy because it doesn't lineup with the comics. Creative liberty can and should be taken.

I dislike its going a bit off track compaired to the books.
However its still easily one of the best tv shows on air.

Btw if anyone is looking for a good book series to read I can recammend these:

Kim Harrison -The Hollows

Jim Butcher -The Dresden Files

Patric Rothfuss - Kingkiller Chronicles

Richelle Mead - Age of X series

Richelle Mead - Georgina Kincaid

Every one of these series is a master peice (imo), and equally worth a read when compaired to A song of Ice & Fire.

Eh, I've just come to accept that since this Season it is a similar but different story. Much more enjoyable that way.
Would I have liked Martin not to clusterfuck snd finish so we could have the a coherent adaptation? For sure. But the show is great either way.

I'm enjoying the season since I started to lower my expectation since the end of last season. So I'll just take it as it is, like some anime fillers and read the manga (in this case the book) later on.

I'm stuck at Book 2 since my dad took the iPad to read comics and I'm suppose to the read the comics and him the book... :/
