Forums - Nintendo - UK Retailer Confirms It’s Ditching Support for Wii U and Wii U Games… Sort of

Tesco are the same in the UK, they analyse every shelf to see how it performs, if its not paying its way they will phase out that line and replace it with something else. They make adjustments for seasonal stock etc. I'm sure Asda/Walmart are the same always checking to see how much value is tied up in stock that isn't selling. Both shops are generally quite poor value for games unless there is a promotion on. It makes sense to reduce space for wii u products because its a niche format in the uk. You see a lot more ps3 and 360 titles plus of course ps4 and xbone nowadays. Nearer to Christmas wii u games and consoles will return.

Their website has one game, lol.

And nothing of value was lost, well not to Nintendo anyway and certainly not to me, ASDA/TESCO/Sainsbury's are not the kind of places you'd typically go for to buy games let alone consoles.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

My local ASDA has never stocked Wii U games for the past year.

Can't remember seeing any Nintendo games in my local ASDA or Tesco or Morrisons even recently, can't say this news is shocking, nor will it cause a massive loss in sales.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I was in berlin not too long ago, and nintendo is preatty huge in germany. UK has mostly always been on the playstation side. Also sweden is now more picking up on the Wii U and its a new console, its getting a bit bigger here in scandinavia. I just hope Nintendo can show off more of Zelda Wii U. I think that can convince alot of people

Hmm, can't say that I've noticed this. If anything, more and more stores are removing shelf space for the Wii U here in Sweden and Norway. GAME nearby has a tiny shelf (same with two other GAME stores I've been to), Media Markt at the largest mall in town has a shelf that holds about 20 titles, Gamestop have all but stopped taking in anything but the bundles and the shelf space is very small and often oddly placed.
This is in Stockholm, so I doubt that things are better in the smaller cities.
Conditions are much the same in Norway (I'm from there, moved to Sweden in 2013), if not even a bit worse.

I really don't think it's growing in Scandinavia. It's barely moving across the entire cointinent and the vast majority of those sales are from three countries (France, Germany, England). I would be surprised if the Wii U sells more than 400-500 units per week on average in Scandinavia.

The 3DS has moved decently though, and has quite a bit more space alotted in stores, both for games and SKU's.

Asda hasn't stocked wii u games or wii u for years. But I bought Mario kart 8 from there. And they had super smash bros. Smaller games like Donkey Kong and stuff no chance. Its weird cos in germany some shops wii u sections are bigger then ps4 and way bigger then xbone

@bolded: I don´t mean to be rude but in which store? Mediamarkt/Saturn/Expert mostly focus on PS4/XboxOne. Or are you talking about some one man shop ?

@Topic: I have to say this sucks. Yes even if it doesn´t sell well it should still be available for your customers.

Yup...RO friggin rocked

They should've at least kept getting a few consoles and games in stock, just on the off-chance that someone actually wanted to buy it, so they could make some profit.

bet: lost

Hmmm, weird because the GAME's and Gamestop here close to me and gothenburg have preatty varied Wii U game selection, maybe it sells better here in the west coast than in stockholm? ofc Playstation and XBOX sells better , but its not decreasing atleast. ALso they have those splatoon demos here in gothenburg, i think they were gonna go to stockholm aswell

Makes more sense to consolidate more shelf space for more popular products that are more likely to be sold. More mor moar!
