Is it? I've only heard good things so far but then again, only used friends and this site for reference. 

I'm not using this site at all for reference. I'm the only person I know who even knows about Splatoon (and I know multiple Wii U owners), and most of the media I've read about it points out that it's extremely shallow in content. Even the ones that score it well.

gaf says 15-17k for Splatoon, below average (or mediocre even) considering the big marketing push by Nintendo UK

I think it will do 60k-70k first week in Europe, and I doubt France and Germany sales will be big enough to make up for the gap of a 90k-100k opening week.

Obviously those are first week sales, after that it's all downhill for Splatoon.

EDIT: I see the gaf thread. Nobody say 15-17k for Splatton. they just say that "one persone" (withouth any source) say that Splatoon did under 17.5k, and that GTA V sold 15,531...

I have the source for say that Witcher 3 sold 212,400 first week, and that Splatoon outsold Mario Bros U that did nearly 20,000 first week in UK.

I think Splatoon will sell quite well in Japan, its style if very much japanese, with lolis and tentacles and stuff.
But I'm not sure about how it'll performe RoW. Around 1mln LT seems like a reasonable prediction to me.
