You guys give obsidian way to much credit. And at the same time put all the blame on ms. What has obsidian down when they arnt already handed a great franchise. Alpha protocol sucked. Their aliens Rpg got canned. As did the one for Microsoft. These guys are not quality devs. Not even close to the best Rpg devs out there.

I agree with what Ryuu stated above. MS's actions this gen is why I've invested a lot more heavily into PS brand this gen than I did last gen.

Yeah, I've also got to agree with Ryuu on this one. Just a few days ago me and another Xbox friend were talking about how scared to take risks MS is this gen. It's like they won't release sequels to anything that sold less than 2.5m, it's crazy. All of their 2nd party deals are selling less than that and not getting sequels, and still Phil continues his 2nd party crusade instead of building their first party up or taking a chance on a sequel.

I was just thinking that I have literally no clue what MS could announce at E3 aside from the obvious like Forza and Halo 6, there are barely any AA/AAA independent studios left that don't already hate MS, so who the heck is MS going to partner with for their next 2nd party deal?

Obsidian- Likely hates MS because they almost bankrupted them when they cancelled their XB1 exclusive back in 2013, and they just layed off like 60% of their workforce so they no longer have the manpower to make a AA/AAA exclusive for MS.

Platinum- Likely hates MS after the Scalebound cancellation. That cancellation will make other JP devs even more wary about working with MS in the future.

Remedy- Busy with games for 3rd party publishers, we won't see another exclusive from them for at least 3 years, if not longer.

Insomniac- Busy with Spiderman for Sony, and they've suggested that MS isn't interested in Sunset Overdrive 2.

Sumo- Busy with Dead Island 2 and Crackdown 3, they likely don't have enough manpower to be working on a 3rd game right now.

Crytek- Barely hanging on after they nearly went bankrupt for the 2nd time. They did keep the Ryse IP instead of selling it, but I doubt they'll work with MS again.

Mistwalker- Busy with 2 other games right now, both of which are presumably multiplat.

Certain Affinty- Working on 2 new IP's, both of which are independtly funded and therefore will likely be multiplat.

Saber Interactive- Assisting id with Quake's multiplayer.

I've just listed most of the biggest independent studios that aren't Sony/Nintendo affiliated and all of them have reasons to not be working with MS right now. What the heck could MS possibly have to announce at E3 this year, besides VR games, indies, and the obvious like a Halo 6 teaser and Forza 7? Phil has spent years demloshing Microsoft Studios 1st party instead of building it up and now they're running out of 2nd party options. I'm legit worried about this E3, it's basically do or die for MS.

From what I remember we only heard about Alan Wake having ok sales when it went to PC finally. What were the numbers then 45M or so? I'm not sure but I thought this game should've done way more on the Xbox considering the userbase. So much more that MS should've been asking for a sequel.

Who asked for some damn Phantom Dust? Crimson Skies, try to get a Lost Planet made,  Lost Odyssey 2, Mechassault. Hell get another Fusion Frenzy. Again, who asked for that shit? I heard it was one of Phil's favs but still...

The 1st Crackdown was a surprising success. The 2nd was a rushed game. I can see them wanting to correct what was messed up about the series with a third. This one is taking forever though.

I don't think MS 1st party is anything great and should've been addressed a long time ago. I don't know what needs to be done. I'm all for closing studios who don't produce but there needs to be a backup plan for each one.

I see the Sunset Overdrive game and also think it should've sold more. They gave it away for a weekend I believe and promoted the fuck out of it. It sold like ass from what i could tell and read. What more can you do? Want them to Keep investing in high chance failures? Now my opinion is yes. Only because MS has money. 2 games at least to really see if it'll hit. I just don't see our crowd trying anything new honestly. Even my friends just play Cod Madden and GTA. I try to no avail.

I also believe this dude has pulled the reigns on the money. Evident by the TV spots which we see less of this time around. Mistake IMO

You can say they play their crowd with the Madden deals, CoD deals(last gen) Gears Halo and Forza games but it's what sells. The other stuff they've tried hasn't. I believe they've tried going out on limbs with the Japanese games last gen and the exclusives(Quantum Break, Dead Rising 3, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall and a few more I'm probably leaving off)this gen. They just aren't hits like they expected them to be. It's a shame because those were good games that I feel should've sold more. They can't stop making deals and creations but I'm just saying that I'd be hesitant to step out on a limb because the gamers aren't buying the games that would prompt more creativity. Just the same ol same ol.

Sorry for my long post as well.

I meant to quote Ryuu in my latest post. I'm on phone and it's insane trying to delete and repost.

Sorry.

It seems to many people in this thread are giving up on xbox, and blaming Microsoft for every damn thing that goes wrong, sometimes it's their fault and others it's not . I about 3 days ago sold off all my playstation systems and am never going back.
I am xbox only for my main gaming and Nintendo switch for backup.
I got completely feed up with Playstation bs and too many kissing sony's ass anymore to support that shit. Some will agree with me and others will not, it's ok. I have quite a few friends doing the same as me, we are also going to be starting a xbox YouTube channel to show our support and love for the brand.

Job Listing: Ruffian Games new IP and more Halo work, PC related?

Ruffian Games are the creators of Crackdown 2 which released in 2010 along many contract workings for Microsoft and are known to be developing Hollowpoint for PS4 and PC with Paradox Interactive as well as new things based a new job listing and blog post on their website.

The blog post [from September 2015] is very clear on their future, they want to make games that they own and have control over and as part of that are working on a new prototype with a team they are assembling and recruiting for! The game is using with Unreal Engine 4, it also seems like we might find out what exactly this game is in the not to distant future. There is also an image attached to the post which looks like the guy from Team Fortress 2 in an alternate universe:

Tease

Also mentioned in the post is that they like working with their publishing partners and will continue to do so and with that in mind I browsed their careers page and found this seemingly quite obvious job listing for a Senior Networking Engineer:

Here are the highlights with the pictures of the original listing at the bottom incase it disappears:

“The successful candidate will be required to lead a small networking team and will be responsible for the design and implementation of new networking systems including dedicated servers in an existing AAA game codebase. The candidate will also need to work closely with both the project lead and the systems engineers that are responsible for integration with our publishing partner’s backend services.”

Immediately this suggests a port given the existing code base, of course it could be a product in development somewhere else they are helping out on, remasters are aplenty this generation so it’s not necessarily anything that narrows the list of potential projects down.

“The work itself is on a large but well understood code base with a long heritage of shipped titles on multiple platforms.”

“Responsible for delivering real-time networking components for a current generation console/PC title”

The most revealing part is under “Desirable Skills/Experience:

“Preferably has shipped a console product within strict bandwidth and performance targets
Has experience working with first person shooters engines/requirements
Has worked on a first party project with one of the console vendors
Has worked with large, legacy code bases
Has applicable current generation console experience
Has experience with the Azure platform or similar cloud computing platform
Understanding of Windows Store
Understanding of Windows 10 Unified App Platform”

There is much that stands about this given their earlier work: a first-party project with a console vendor narrows it down a lot without mentioning: first person shooters, legacy code base, Azure, the Windows Store and Windows 10 Unified App Platform surely point very obviously towards a particular partner they have had since the studio was formed.

Unless there is a mega funky deal going on with Street Fighter V then I think it’s a continuation of their work with Microsoft/343 on Halo, Ruffian did help with bringing Halo Spartan Assault to Xbox consoles as well and ported Halo 3/4/ODST to Xbox One as part of Halo MCC so they would know that code well at this point and would make a lot of sense to be a partner for that.

They did also help with Kinect Sports Rivals and Sea of Thieves would also fit the description pretty well although given it had been announced when this job listing went up (September 18th) I think its less likely to be that.

After I found this job listing I went and checked Linkedin too and found this which would mostly rule out Sea of Thieves, I guess?

The copy and paste didnt come out well so ill just explain it.
Ruffian games are looking for a new Senior Networking Engineer to work on a new XB1 and Windows 10 IP. Also they are still working with 343I on the Halo series.
This is an image they released for their new game

This site really needs to get fixed and overhauled badly. If it doesn't, I don't think it will survive past this year.

I didn't know Alan Wake sold that much. Even with PC that's really good. I thought it barely crawled past 1.5. Take back what I said about AW if that number is true.
I've been gaming on MS since the 1st few days of Xbox Live. MS and Nintendo are the only two companies that exist in my world. Don't care about anyone else. At all

Ryu you make fair arguments for obsidian, so does shika. Obviously ya they are the best option for a Rpg exclusive since everyone else is off the table. I loved kotor 2. New vegas was too buggy for me when I played it and I was over the fallout art style( too brown and ugly). I also didn't like alpha protocol. But I haven't played there more recent games so idk. If they where to make an exclusive I'd hope its an original ip.

People are way too obsessed lately before Bioware games drop about whether the companions meet your personal criteria for hotness. Same thing happened with Inquisition....everyone saying they all sucked, but then people played the game and realized the characters were actually awesome, because you know....they were well written, which is what really matters. You wanna watch babes getting naked on your TV, pull up internet explorer on your Xbox and open pornhub lol

This.
