Some more final impressions for various games:
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
Excellent platformer that took me 8 hours to beat (100%). There are still some speed run achievements left and I see myself giving them a try, so in the end you're looking at a ~10 hours game, which is pretty good for both a platformer and a $20 indie game.
The metroidvania formula is well executed due to smart level design and upgrades that make past sections much easier to navigate. Graphics are charming, though limited due to the 3DS origin. Half-Genie Hero uses a much more modern style (as seen in the video in the post above). Music was nice as well but there's not a big variety. For example, every boss fight uses the same theme.
The game has challenging parts but it's no Shovel Knight (which IMO wasn't that hard either). Checkpoints are plentiful and you get an inventory system that lets you choose between various power ups in case you struggle.
I still felt the game was lacking something, but couldn't really figure out what.

Hue
A puzzle platformer about colors. It was an enjoyable experience and I got my 1000G in ~7 hours. My main gripe with the game however is the repetition of puzzles throughout the game. This comes from the rather limited possibilities of the main idea. Stuff (boxes, balloons, rocks etc.) have different colors. Change the background color to match one of them and the object becomes invisible, which in this world means you can also pass through it. Change the background color again and there it is again. In the end it all comes down to making stuff visible or invisible in the right order or at the right time.
The story is not very interesting. You're trying to find your mother who is lost in some kind of color dimension or whatever. Doesn't sound so bad but the story is only told through collectable letters that you get after every 5 levels or so. During these letters you're simply tasked to go through a section without any hazards until you find the exit.
I'm not that happy with the artstyle either. Hue and pretty much half the screen is black, while the other half has the color of you're choosing. It looks pretty depressing if you ask me. On top of that I had problems differentiating certain colors on my TV. Hue uses 8 colors and if you don't see them next to each other, you might have a real problem seeing the difference between pink/violett and orange/yellow.
Most achievements are story based but there's one for getting 28 collectable objects. They are designed that you can't get all of them in a section you haven't played before, as the color needed to get the collectable is a few levels further. It's not challenging to get them either, so it's just a cheap way to make people play through the same sections again.
The puzzles themself were quite alright. Most of the time you don't figure them out immediately, but when you think about them, you usually get an idea on how to proceed rather quickly. Except for maybe the last few levels you won't spend more than 10 minutes a puzzle.

Terraria
Don't even know if I already wrote anything about it or not. On 360 I tried the game for maybe 2 hours back when it came out and didn't like it that much. Now with the X1 version, not much has changed. I see massive mistakes that have been made with this game and it makes me angry, because this game could be much much better than it is.
Spent 10 hours with the X1 version and I probably won't touch it again.
My main issues with the game:
Enemy spawn. Why so many, why so often? It makes the singleplayer part almost unplayable when you can't move to a lower level when there are 7 hornets in a small area and as soon as you kill one, the next one spawns immediately. Then of course some blob follows you from above and you have to take care of him as well.
Difficulty. Far too hard. At least if you're playing alone. Also why not simply have a peaceful mode?
Controls. I don't like to say it, but this game needs a keyboard and a mouse. Constantly switching between precision mode and auto mode sucks, quickly building blocks around you to protect yourself from enemies is extremely annoying with a controller. Menuing sucks as well in this game.
The game does have way better monster fighting mechanics than Minecraft though. More weapons, dozens of different enemies etc. but it's ruined by the stuff mentioned above. Maybe the game is meant to be played in co-op but the same could be said about Minecraft and that's still fun in singleplayer.
