Ea Microsoft needs to buy Bungie.

I don't think MS will benefit somehow from making Destiny 3 Xbox exclusive. Looks like the game popularity decreased significantly between the first and second one which is the main reason why both Bungie and Activision became unhappy with such partnership.

Yeah, there is no good reason for MS to buy Bungie. They just aren't interested in Halo development anymore, so it's not like MS could just merge them with 343. Destiny popularity is dwindling, the whole MMO shooter thing was clearly a fad that is past it's peak (just look at Anthem's poor preorders), it has been passed by a new fad, Battle royale. Bungie clearly want to keep making Destiny sequels instead of working on Halo again or new IP, and Destiny sequels would be unlikely to be profitable any longer, looking at how high the budget was for Destiny 1 and at how much Destiny 2's sales were down by. Bungie is huge and would be an expensive purchase for MS, they could get multiple other studios for the same price, and there are other AAA independent developers they could buy that would probably cost less than Bungie that are much better options, such as Remedy, Gearbox, and Crytek. Hell, they could probably get CD Projekt for the same price as Bungie if they wanted to, and Bethesda for only a bit more.

I'd argie that the sub genre is stil very healthy. Destiny 2 still averages well over 1m daily players, Warframe is as popular as ever, and The Division 2 is looking like it will be a big hit this year. Anthem just looks boring imo.

I don't think Bungie wants to be bought. They had reasons for leaving Microsoft a decade ago and they weren't even owned by Activision but clearly they hated being under them in any way. From what I read, both situations were cause for celebration within the studio once they parted ways. Don't look for Bungie to get involved with any more long term deals and certainly don't look for them to be acquired. They will most likely try to do what Insomniac has managed to pull off and avoid any such similar situations they were in like the plague.

The $100 million investment they got from NetEase to make an unannounced game should keep them afloat for awhile plus whatever they get out of their work with Activision. I don't think they'll have any problem securing investment for Destiny 3, especially since there seems to be a generally positive feeling about the direction Bungie is heading after this news. Though the ball is now in their court and Bungie has to prove that the issues with Destiny were more driven by their conflict with Activision than their own failures.

Back in 2015 Microsoft wanted to get Bungie back. I think they are goign to buy them and split them into 3 teams.
Destiny 3 team
New IP team
Halo team to work with 343i.

Agreed, MS shouldnt buy Bungie. For that price, they could buy Bluepoint, IO, and Skybox Labs, and still have spare change remaining.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Wow how did I miss that The Stanley Parable is coming to Xbox One this year?
Always wanted to play that. I assume the achievements will be quite crazy.

MS should acquire WayForward and make Shantae Xbox's mascot.

Because you play to many games and hoard achievements?

Bungie struggles with one game at 800+ employees, seriously doubt they're doing three at once, Bungie is well know for being a mess when it comes to development of their games, Halo 2 and 3 are well known for having a shitty development, along with Destiny. Frankly Bungie helping out on Halo doesn't inspire me with much confidence either considering a lot of the veterans have left Bungie so I hope that's not true.

Buying Bungie would cost way more than all their purchases so far, It'd probably cost more than the majority of them combined and goes completely against what Microsoft has been focusing on which is AA-Bordering on AAA developers which they can build up, none of the purchases so far have even passed 200 employees, cost of Bungie alone could be used on 3-4 good quality studios that can be built up.

Exactly. Microsoft would be spending tons of money on a studio that clearly doesn't really want to be under anyone's command and in which many of the people who really made Bungie what it was during its Halo days are not there anymore. The money would be far better spent on acquiring a number of smaller studios and building them up over time. The best time to buy Bungie would be in the event that its back is to the wall, is forced to downsize, and then sell. 800+ is just too many mouths to feed for a studio that isn't what it used to be.
