when they have an open world game that doesn't get old once you do everything, then let me know. that'll be the benchmark.

For some reason, I've always thought you were more of a PC gamer and that you'll play this in PC- honestly, I have no problems with handling either Geralt or Roach with kb/m, and I almost never turn lock on - and horse fighting is so much fun, if you handle properly his fear level you can take on enemies you're still not even supposed to engage, specially if you use sprint since it deals even more damage. Though, tbh, when Geralt is in run mode he does behave bit wierd when stopping - I prefer to walk and use sprint, it feels much better.
Yeah, swimming can be finicky at times, though I yet have to die due to being stuck somewhere underwater. As for underwater fight, use crossbow, they die at once. |
I was more of a pc gamer, yet I prefer the convenience of consoles. I played witcher 2 on pc and had terrible slowdown in some places, so much I had to keep going through the settings to make it playable. Now on consoles at least it stays playable, no slowdown into sub 10fps.
I've tried fighting with the horse but it's just frustrating with his turning and the camera. I rather sprint everywhere and only use the horse when I'm encumbered and need to get to town. Fighting enemies you're not supposed to yet is easy with axii.
Thanks for the tip about the crossbow. I never use it since it's slow to load and hardly does any damage, I guess its usefulness is underwater. Quen works once under water but you can't recast it.

I am a PC to console convert. I just love the convenience of consoles. I dont have much time to play. Whenever I play its short session or in holidays. Witcher 2 ran horribly in my old 5770. Its better to have a system not to worry about performance of it. I am happy what my $399 device can do.

Yeah, I get console convinience, just thought you'd enjoy this game much more on PC with all the problems you were mentioning in your posts - not just that kb/m handling of Geralt and Roach is superior to controller, but signs are individually mappable to keys...plus, if you have decent GPU, there's no frame rate issues and loading times seems quite ok (though not sure what you consider terrible).
As for crossbow, I've used it few times, mostly to get flying things down and underwater, but I find it pretty much useless otherwise - this is pretty much melee game, all long range stuff is almost non-existent - not that is really required (so far), I'm not seeing any Orc or Black Goblin Shamans that are shooting at me with fireballs from afar.

The thing is, I like to play on my projector, 5.1 surround sound, comfortable on a reclining couch. Doesn't get better than that.
I can hook my pc up to the projector yet it's a hassle and I have not found a comfortable way to use keyboard and mouse that way. Thus I'm always messing around with controller configurations. My gpu is outdated anyway, pc is dying (random machine stop errors) and my laptop that's now serving all my pc needs only has a GT 740m. Makes the choice quite easy.
I did play Elite dangerous for months on my laptop. plenty slowdown yet manageable and most controls could be mapped to a DS4 (still need a keyboard nearby) Load times were still bad enough that I spend all the down time on the forums. The big advantage of pc is instant alt-tab. It's also its downfall, too many distractions and I forget I was playing.

What you tlaking about the amoutn of NPC is mind blowing.
Maybe your on console and the npc are on super low. But on PC there is a setting for amount of background hcaracters or somethign to that extent. Like 4 settings, low, medium, high, ultra. When on Ultra there is a shit ton of people walking around the cities. The Inn's are jam packed with people.
