Forums - Nintendo - Has the Wii U irreparably damaged Nintendo's image?

Well I won't be buying any more Nintendo hardware unless things drastically change. Nintendo seem to be pulling back from supporting the Wii U rather than getting behind it in its time of need.

How do u figure they are pulling back support for Wii U? This year has just about the same or perhaps even more support than 2013/2014 from Nintendo.

It's pretty obcvious to me that they delayed Zelda so that they could launch it on NX and make their money back. Probably more games too, but Zelda is the most prominent one.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Next year around E3 remind me to make a bet with you that Zelda Wii U will in fact be an exclusive for the Wii U.

Sure, I think we can trust Ninten, and the Wii U hasn't left a permanent mark on them. There is always next time for them to potentially turn this around. They did so with the Wii, and they can do it again. Hell, if they just made a really powerful console, priced it well, marketed it well, and get all the 3rd parties on board, they can probably turn this thing around.

But, Ninten won't be doing that, sadly. And even if they did, 3rd parties would probably punk out on them anyways. Guess we'll have to see what sort of crazy new scheme they're planning. Hopefully something good...

If Nintendo can get the stars of their titles back to being a household name (through movies and tv series) I think that could greatly effect next gen. It just depends on what they do with Universal.

Remember when Nintendo was booming? They had the Super Mario Super Show, They had a Legend Of Zelda cartoon, they had Captain N and the N Team, they were freaking everywhere.

We won't really see the effects of it being irreplaceably damaged until the next console. I think people are still excited about Nintendo first party games though so its not entirely destroyed.

Enough to spend 300-500 on a system again? If the next one fails it's all over. If it truly combines the handheld and console market they kill both if they fail.

I don't think getting those who bought a wiiu to buy again is the issue. Nintendo still has very high customer satisfaction for those who own the products.

I think that would be great personally, though maybe not everyone would agree that is enough. A lot of people do say they are getting tired of Ninten's usual IPs. Perhaps it would be good if they could make more new IPs that everyone can get behind? At least to get people to stop saying "Just Mario and friends again..."

But I agree that cartoons and movies would be great to see Ninten bring back. : )

Well, there is no one and done fix all for the situation. The big N pushing M rated titles this gen is helping I believe, and really besides game droughts I don't think there is anything more I could ask them as far as this gen. It'd be great if they could just finish 2016-2017 strong and get these droughts out of peoples minds before the next consoles drop.

Basically, will getting their franchises back into the homes of consumers be the only thing they need to do? No, but it would be a massive first step, and one that I think is the most crucial. I think a lot of us can agree Nintendo's first MAJOR misstep this gen was no advertising, and a confusing name. Right now Nintendo has the tools on hand now to make sure their new system is properly advertised for, and the name should be a non issue anyways. I figured they wanted to go with the Wii because of its success in the past, I don't see them using the Wii branding in the future because no matter what you do now it will only make things more confusing.

no. but it will take 2 console generations to repair and a maximum effort on their part. There are a couple of routes they could take, but only 1 will really get that money from the call of duty/madden crowd. Again i beleive it would take about a decade and a half to achieve this image (being realistic). They could just settle on being a less profitable company or at least try to obtain additional profit through other avenues. (qol) I feel like nintendo will try to do both. I kinda hope they don 't try to do both. The nx and qol make me think the latter is their decision.
