It's very likely. My biggest fear if the Vita truly is Sony's last handheld is that Nintendo might get lazy, I mean, I feel as though that's already starting to happen with Nintendo. But I just hope less competition means less interesting hardware/software from their handheld side

I'm not afraid in that regard. Nintendo is not in a position when they can afford being lazy. The mobile market is hitting their handhelds hard and their home console is becoming the next GameCube in terms of sales. With their hardware suffering in sales and the 3rd parties ignoring their systems, Nintendo has to carry both handheld and home console on their own.

I guess you make a good point. I'm just hoping we get 1 screen system again. For me at least, 2 screens feels kinda clunky. Ive always preferred just 1 screen over the 2.

I think Nintendo will keep the double screen setting one way or another. Even if it is one big touchscreen, some games will give you the option of splitting the screen in two, side to side. Hell, if the NX really is the Fusion project, Nintendo will offer WiiU games through their eShop and you'll use the handheld as the gamepad.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

That is interesting. Hadn't really thought about a fusion using BC that way

I seriously hope the next Nintendo handheld is a Vita clone I love the design. Yeah, thankfully I love niche Japanese games.

It definitely is damage control. Like you said and Ive said earlier, its weird to call it a legacy model.

Actually, that brings up an interesting question. If Sony is going to abandon the handheld market, and the NeXt Nintendo handheld is at least slightly more powerful than the Vita, do you think most of the Vita titles (the ones not tied to the PS brand) would be ported to the Nintendo system?

Not sure why they would bother. Vita has no games worth buying on it according to most on this forum :p anybody wanting Vita software would already have bought one I presume. The rest are all on PS3 and PS4 anyway.

Actually, the Vita has a lot of JRPGs, those usually sell well on Nintendo systems (pretty sure the Persona games would sell like gangbusters). And Nintendo could help localise or advertise some of the smaller ones. Maybe even release retail versions so that the first year doesn't suffer a drought.

Thank you missed the sarcasm ;)

However at the same time, I'm sure they'd have already put them on 3DS if they thought there was much of a market there for them. It's not as if most of them would be too demanding for the 3DS. Plus from the very limited data we have from the dual format releases, the Vita versions tended to sell better. I think it's a niche market firmly entrenched on the PlayStation eco system for a lot of these games.

Do JRPGs usually sell that well on Nintendo systems? The recent ones on 3DS have been putting out more Vita like figures.

Why would you buy an inferior port for your 3ds when you can buy the better version on vita? I'd imagine many in Japan own both handhelds.

If the nx handheld is more powerful, people will most likely just pick up the games on that.

No, they won't do that, of course. But there are a lot of third parties that could bring their titles to the next Nintendo system.

This is more possible but still not going to happen.

Wait, so the "legacy" platform is the one with a better OLED screen and mysterious mystery port? Other than better battery life, there's no real reason why I would want the Slim model. I prefer my "legacy" model, thank you very much.

There are many many more who do not. (over 18m 3DS to under 4m Vita). So there are at least 14m 3DS owners without a Vita. I honestly just think the market isn't there on the Nintendo formats for a lot of these games as much as people would like to think.
