Forums - Gaming - Can Nintendo/NX Save Japan Or Is It Too Late?

Japan doesn't need saving. They play mobile games because they like them more. Let them like what they want to like.

I don't think it'll end up doing much to help, even if it's a handheld.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It could be that, particularily casual gamer women, I think they do genuinely prefer the form factor of their mobile phone that also keeps them continually tied to their social life and the games are very easy to learn how to play.

I did see a lot of that in Japan, a lot of women play on mobile there.

I guess the more apt term would be saving "traditional" gaming in Japan.

It's obviously not just casuals, though. There are plenty of successful, complex, deep games being bought there.

Nope, Japan can't be saved (especially without games like Final Fantasy). PS4 will win this generation in Japan.

Your missing the point and PS4 aint winning this gen, You forget 3DS or Vita?

I don't think NX will make any difference regardless of form, to be honest. Japan as we know as a gaming market is gone.

3DS???

The only way it replaces mobile is if it can do everything mobile can do. If its a dedicated game device (like Nintendo likes to do) then it won't have near the impact it needs to bring gaming out of mobiles hands in Japan.

"Japan as we know it" is gone; the whole market has been in a severe decline for some time and there is no sign of the trend being reversed any time soon.

Whole market isnt gone, it decline but its not gone. I get it had the worst week of all time, but its not like gaming just went up and left. Besides 1 system the 3DS is actually i think currently the 5th/6th highest selling HW of all time in japan. Its in its 5th year too.

Vita has good support and SW sales are good for it.

Imo i think many are taking this too far. Yes the market declined greatly, yes mobile (ewww), but C'mon :'(

I'll say since I actually just recently returned from Japan, the "everyone is obsessed with mobile" thing is no joke. I basically spent 1-2 hours a day on the subway/metro every day there and it's all mobile domination right now. Yes you'll see the odd 3DS, and the even rarer Vita, but it's not looking good right now.

This doesn't mean anything, you go anywhere on public transportation is people are on their phones, its easy to see why people don't wanna take out their 3DS/Vita on the bus.  I can count the amount of times I've seen a 3DS or hell even a DS in public on one hand.
