Seems as good a place as any to post this, even if it's off topic. Following my recent exploration of Konami classics, I just finished my first MGS game (because Ground Zeroes doesn't count) with Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D. Absolutely fantastic game. I completely get where the love for this franchise comes from, and I absolutely can not wait to play Kojima's swan song with The Phantom Pain.

Kojima really is a genius.

Also, the cutscenes weren't nearly as invasive as people made them out to be. They were only really bad in the very beginning and towards the end when your leading up to the last few bosses.

Had my endorsement for "greatest game of all time" for several years! Glad you enjoyed it.  Eater eggs galore, too.

awesome a new fan!.

also the cutscenes were never really that bad it was MGS4 that had the infamous cutscenes that were incredibly long and the ones some people complained about, BUT that being said if you are a fan that has been playing ALL the games (like myself) you dont mind those cutscenes because they were explaining and concluding all the plot points the game had, and at the end of every game there was a cliffhanger that created more plot holes and MGS4 needed to explain all of that hence the long cutscenes.

but the games are GREAT, one of my favorite series ever.

OT: didnt buy MGS:GZ (not paying for a demo), so this is great since i would have never gotten to play it unless it was free.

I hope it doesn't come to PAL PSN+ because I bought it (heavily discounted, but bought nonetheless) just a month ago and I will be a bit miffed if it now comes free for this month. I guess that's always the danger with buying games that are almost a year old, there is always a chance they will be on PSN+ not long after you buy them.

and call of juarez, i liked that game, but dont want to turn my ps3 to get it D:

Can just log onto the psn store on your browser and add the licence to your psn account there, that way you'll have call of juarez available to download whenever you do set up the ps3 and have psn+ active.

Yeah. After doing a bit of research, it looks like Peace Walker is the best game for someone like me to play before transitioning to MGSV. Apparently, MGS3 had the most focus on "stealth" gameplay, which where my favorite parts of the game, and gameplay in general, of the entire series. My least favorite parts of the game were the set peices at the end. From what I've scene, PW comes closest to MGS3 when it comes to gameplay. Also, I've taken a liking to Big Boss, mostly because he was my first MC in the series, and it would be nice for me to play his games in cronalogy before having to adapt to the new "real" Snake.

Also, from what I've seen, MGSV takes a lot of inspiration from PW, which takes a lot of inspiration from MGS3, so it will be a good was to transition. Now I just have to figure out if I should play on my sister's PSP or buy the, likely more expensive, HD collection version with the superior framerate and controls due to a second analog stick.

i would recomend buying the HD version due to (as you said) the controls plus you will also get the better version of the games and all the other games if you want to play them-

Also even though my first MC was Solid Snake, i do prefer Big Boss as well,  and dont worry if you ever play any MGS featuring Solid Snake he is not that different from Big Boss, the big difference is the story revolving Big Boss is more appealing than the one that Solid Snake goes through.

now that i think about it Big Boss is more of an MC to MGS than Solid Snake, since he has been in 3 games (MGS 3, Peace Walker and now MGS V) versus the 2 that had featured Solid Snake as the MC (MGS 1 and 4).

Wasn't Snake in Portable Ops? Or is that like not canon?

Yeah, I don't know anything real about the overarching narrative, but it seems like Big Boss will have the more "character driven" stories while Solid has the more "plot driven" stories. Or maybe not. I don't know. But it feels like starting Star Wars with Episode 1. Everything is a suprise to me, which is cool because I know that 3 was really just a prequel explaining things people already know. Like how Ocelot is apparently a really important character who's not actually silly in any of the other games. Weird. But cool that he'll always be that silly young kid to me as I watch him grow.

you are right Portable Ops is not canon, its kind of like a side story that doesnt matter and isnt even canon to begin with so its completly avoidable.

and man now that you mention Ocelot... you should REALLY play some of the other games (1, 2 or 4 or all of them to be honest XD) because once you see him in his older days you are not going to recognize him, you got the backwards "fanservice treatment", in which you see him first as an inmature soldier who messes up a lot of the times an then you will see him... well im not going to spoil it so lets say you will see him as hes "true self".

also you are right about the way you described Big Boss having the more "character driven" stories and Snake having the "Plot Driven" ones, its huge story that obviously conects both characters and everything Big Boss does will cause all the... (lets say) events that Snake will have to deal later.

Finally something worth downloading :)
