This is normal.

Anyone that ridiculed you for it was silly.  The system's been out for over a year now, but we've been told several times that early development for the successor hardware starts up almost immediately. Then things ramp up to a significant workforce around the 2 year mark or so.

Doesn't this always happen? It's not like they're going to wait until 2020 and say, "Oh shit! We need to release a new console. Just throw some crap together!"

"next generation gaming system"... could also be a new handheld or other mobile devices.

Preferred:
•    Current and next-gen game console experience is desirable (e.g. PS3, PSP, X-box 360 etc.)
•    Experience with Unity, multiple player game, networking

They include PSP experience as well as experience with the Unity engine, which is more important for smaller and mobile games than for high end hardware.
