Forums - Nintendo - What if Xenoblade X would be a Pokemon game?

It would single handedly do the impossible and revive the Wii U.

But it's not, so it won't.

hm i dont see any big problems them just using a similar story as xbx´s for the pokemon game. Some things changed yeah, but they could still make an similar awesome story.

Because Pokemon has an established lore at this point.  Xenoblades story is very different.

Look, if Nintendo wants to make an open world Pokemon game for the wii u, more power to them, but it should be built from the ground up.  Pokemon would deserve that and xenoblade deserves its own release as well.

that being said, it will never happen.  Pokemon is their handheld money maker and Nintendo seems satisfied keeping it that way.

So what would u change on an "build from a ground up" pokemon game that is made different in XCX? In my opinion it just fit perfectly. It would definitve be a commercial better game. To be honest I doubt XBX would be profitable at all. The game was probl. made on a similar level to the just today released wRPG Witcher 3. Both developed from 2011-2015, both big 100+ persons teams, aaa titles.

But witcher 3 will probl. sell 3-4x as many units as xenoblade x, just on the ps4. This cant be profitable.

I agree that nintendio s probl scared of hurting handhelds sales with such a game. The pokemon games are probl very cheap in development but sell incredible numbers. A wii u pokemon games would easily have 10x as big development costs and wont sell anything near the handheld versions.

You seem more concerned about how the game sells then if it is actually good...As a consumer, you really should be more concerned about the quality of the game.

The Pokemons would look like something straight from the PS1 though...

Why can't it be profitable though? Many JRPG devs make profits with fairly low sales, so why can't Monolith? Besides that, The Witcher 3 is actually a pretty low budget RPG given what it will sell. No where nears the kinds of budgets that games like The Elder Scrolls or Mass Effect get.

well to be honest i have not enough knowledge about development costs to give a 100% accurate answer.

But if a 300k units sold call of duty/assassins creed port made by a 20men team in 1 year isnt profitable i doubt a full game like XBX with 4 years development time and completly made from scratch which probl sell about 1Mio lifetime could be.

well its just not very clever to make games where the main audience on your console isnt interested in, if you could do alot better without changing to much.

Games like Bayonetta 2, Devild Thirds, XBX and co. I dont say this games are bad. But wii u owners mostly arnt interested in this games.

People get the wii u because of the typical nintendo games. Thats pretty much the reason. Just check the wii u sales on games. Mario Kart, Smash, Mario 3d Wörld, Zelda is what people want. On 3ds it is Pokemon (most sucsessfull game) and Mario.

But at the moment there are not enough games of this kind.

What do you think would the NDS/Gameboy/3ds sell without pokemon?

I think Pokemon was one of the main reasons the 3ds/nds dominated PSP and Vita. And the wii u needs those games too if it shouldnt be the worst selling nintendo home console ever

It also isn't smart to only make games for one group.  They are trying to support a hardware platform and have to try to expand their user base by making games that appeal to different audiences...

Let's see... Tales of games, Persona games, Hyperdimension games and many many other JRPGs make a profit despite rarely selling above 1mil and having a decent amount of time spent on them.

Also I doubt it would have been made from scratch, they probably bought some stuff over from previous games (most likely the original Xenoblade) whether that be art assets, story elements, side quests or game mechanics they all would have lessened the workload. Then there is the fact that they also worked on other games at the same time, so it wasn't 100% of the studio working on Xenoblade for the whole time.

Sorry, but im not much intro Jrpgs at all. I just care about XBX because unfortunaly there is almost nothing else coming to wii u where i could be a little bit interested in. So i cant say if these games are on a similar level.
