Forums - Gaming - Should Konami have an IP Fire-Sale like THQ?

Should Konami sell their IPs?

Yes. 75 66.37%

No. 12 10.62%

That would be good for our chances to see the IP in a game, but it probally will not happen since they are not going out of business but shifting focus and why sell off something that you can rape any of the value from in cheap mobile games.

It's going to tear my heart apart to see such great franchises as Castlevania, Silent Hill and Contra reduced to cheap mobile titles but it would make no business sense for Konami to part with those IPs.

Signature goes here!

Selling off their IP's would be quite annoying as it would end up being a hostage situation when someone else buys it that's not 3rd party, I'd rather someone buy it who'd make the game multiplatform than exclusive.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Most games you have counted are newer but what about older Thq ips?

THQ was close to bankruptcy.
Konami just posted higher than expected profits. Their focus on cabinets and gambling actually makes sense.
It's just that the gamers suffer because of it.

Rather, they should start looking to auction their major ip's, and start working on creating new ones.

Outsource them, I guess, but to appropriate studios. Arc System Works did all right with Hard Corps. From Software could probably do a good Castlevania or Metal Gear. Level-5 would do a good Suikoden. The Konami franchise I miss the most other than CV is Goemon. Realistically, as a company, Konami is very healthy and doesn't have any incentive to sell off IPs, and while Konami sitting on them isn't going to do us much good, I don't trust EA, Activision, or Ubisoft with them either.

I like Chicken!!!!!

But serious answer, from a business POV the better option would be for Konami to license those IP out to other publishers, then they get a constant stream of money from the sales of those games.
Selling off IPs may net a lot of capital initially, but licensing out those properties to other companies means they'll probably make more money over time.

If they decide to stay away from the 3rd party AAA development business they still make a huge amount of money with very little effort on their part, but they can still return to that space in the future if they later decide that's what they want.
