Forums - Microsoft - IGN: How To Solve Xbox One's Indie Problem

Didn't know Xbox One had an indie problem. Indie games are the problem this gen. Too many of them, all of them shovelware.

Gone are the days of Limbo and Braid.

Tbh I wish the quality of these games were up to XBLA standard. As it is, it's hard to give a shit about a supposed indie problem when a vast majority of the games are sheer garbage.

I love a good indie game. It's sometimes nice to be able to only have to put a few hours into a game to complete it. Especially for people like myself, who don't have alot of time to game during the spring and summer.

I think Ryan McCaffrey meant, Arcade games. Small downloadable titles, you know, the games that didn't matter until late 2013.

And Summer of Arcade brought us games like: Shadow Complex, Battleblock Theater, Iron Brigade, State of Decay, Motorcross Madness. Downloadable games that had quality to rival some AAA games.

I think much of it also just comes down to how hard sony works to help indie developers.

http://www.venomquest.com/2015/05/14/no-mans-sky-could-get-a-blu-ray-release-teases-playstation-uk-boss/

“No Man’s Sky has been treated as if it was from one our internal studios. We’ve been working very closely with the developers and bringing it into our release programme as if we had made it. We are not going to treat it any differently and we are going to put the full weight of PlayStation behind it. If it all comes together as well as expected, it will be treated like a first-party released; it is not a self-published small indie title on the platform.” - Fergal Gara

I think its fair to say sony puts in more work, when it comes to helping indie developers than MS does.

Sony just pays the indies, it's that simple.  Sony has bought up as much indie games as possible.

got any source for that? the fact is sony advertises their games, lets them launch on other consoles, has the best hardware, offers the best support and has the biggest install base. they dont need to pay any money.

Well, when a dev like Lab Zero Games talks about "exclusivity periods" where they can't release their game anywhere else, what excactly does that mean to you?

To me this doesn't sound like "we bring our game only to Sony devices because we like Sony so much"

Where exactly did people get from that Sony pays devs but only starting exactly at a specific size this dev has to have? Where did anyone ever write down "we as Sony pay only "AA" or bigger devs". Absolutely no clue why so many Sony fans think that.

Well Indie wise the number of them released this year on Xbox one is way more than last year where you would be happy if they released one indie a week.

Still their is a big gap quantity wise PS4 170 VS 89 Xbox one.
