I would go with Emerald
Though many like Gold/Silver/Crystal
The original Red/Blue games are great, but I find it really hard to play them again without the new features making it a lot slower (no running shoes, trainer rebattles, etc.)

The newest one available, so either Emerald or Fire Red/Leaf Green.

Either in this case meaning... they are interchangeable?

I don't remember which one is newer, but yeah it doesn't really matter which you get, they're all old and crappy. :L
Hey Nintendomination! I just bought a Nintendo 2DS! It will take some time to arrive, I bought it online. This is going to be my first handheld ever!
As soon as I receive it, I will take some pictures to show you guys. Also, it comes with Mario Kart 7 pre-installed! Boy, I'm excited, can't wait!

Cool :)
I'm not a huge fan of the 2DS, but I am more into handheld gaming than your statement implies you have been. The 2DS is a great budget option.
Looking for game recommendations? There's a lot of good stuff to be had.

Thank You!
So far, other than Mario Kart 7, I'm looking forward to Pokémon Moon and Super Mario 3D Land. I like RPGs, and I think Pokémon will entertain me for quite some time.

I tried Splatoon again today and nope, still no good. Was able to get the first few matchs in successfully, but after that I was unable to complete another. However, I immediately put in Smash and played that online with no issues whatsoever. Since other online functionality like eShop and web browser also still work, I think it's only when there are a lot of players involved that my Wii U can no longer handle. It could still just be Mario Kart and Splatoon having issues and not the Wii U though, so to test I'd appreciate if someone could join me for some 2 player races in MK8. Doesn't have to be right now, we can set up a time.

Do you plan on getting a Switch soon? If so you may want to wait for Stars before picking up Moon, but you can't go wrong either way.
