I don't get this whole debate about whether the dock will add extra power or not. Am I the only one who noticed the extremely clear framerate drops on handheld mode in the trailer? (It's a weird thing they didn't cover that up in the trailer, but that's not the point)

Even weirder is, that such visual change would be replicated in post production. It seems that all that footage was keyed in since it lacked UI's and stuff.

Nikki, or NWPlayer123, confirmed that the video trailer was running at 24fps. Thus this may not entirely represent what the handheld part can provide in terms of performance.

Of course you can't judge specifics based on a compressed YouTube video. I'm just saying there was a noticeable dip in framerate on the Switch screen when the guy left his house to play Zelda outside compared to what was on the TV. As in, if the TV footage was probably at 24fps because of the video quality, the Switch screen footage looked sub-20fps at best.

The only frame drop I saw in the handheld mode was the Zelda footage.  And that was not really a frame drop, it was the slowmo when you pull your bow out in mid air.  The other mobile footage looked fine to me.

I cant believe how many people thought that was the game dropping frames, like we hadnt seen that in the WiiU videos before

My biggest dream for the NS is that...it gets a sequel to Kid Icarus Uprising. Seriously, it would be glorious in HD on a big screen and with a proper controller.

as far as I know, the Black varient is the virtual boy controller, and it doesn't look bad at all :p

A fan would add to the power problem though, as the battery, already being rapidly drained by the high-powered GPU, would have to expend even more energy to spin the fan.

And Nintendo has yet to confirm if the dock provides any performance boost.

Well whether it provides any performance enhancer is unknown, but I can almost guarantee you it will boost performance similar to how when you plug your laptop in the performance goes up.  Cause without the battery the worry about, the system can run on all cylinders constantly.  When unplugged, I am thinking it will throttle like a laptop does, slowing things down.

Could be interesting if the Switch had a feature where rather than just throtttle the power consumption and let the performance drop, it also throttled settings like resolution or even graphics settings.  Basically, switching the game to a "Switch Mobile Mode."  I would think they would need to work with developers to put such a mode in games but it might be worth it to have a seamless transition that keeps acceptable performance levels.

And of course, I want to know if it is possible to plug the Switch into some form of power supply while in mobile mode.  if so, then for long term uses like airplane rides, it could work even with limited battery potential.

We still don't know for sure though, for all we know the dock could simply recharge and upscale.

And even if it does boost performance, I can't see many devs bothering with more detailed core graphics for docked mode; optimistically, we might see a boost in resolution, (e.g. 540p when portable, 720p when docked) and maybe framerate. (Such as how games like Hyrule Warriors Legends runs better on New 3DS compared to the standard model) Things like textures, geometry, etc would likely stay the same, and hence limited by the constraints of portable mode.

Gamexplain had an interview with one of the actors from the Switch teaser!Im still watching through it, but so far it is interesting.

Edit:watching this, makes me realize just how scary Nintendo NDA must be for they to hire random people and nothing leak.

Well meshes won'tchange but I could see textures change if the game has a PC version.  Nearly all multiplats that have PC versions have a couple of texture settings that are lower than PS4/XBONE and a couple higher.  So they would have the assets.  And somegames already have options to turn off motion blur and other superfluous effects.  So again, it wouldn't be much work.  So we'll see.

I just think it is almost inherrent in this kind of design that performance would go up when plugged, even if it's just stabler performance.
