Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon post-launch plans - is it good?

Did Evolve got crucified? If you want to compare Splatoon to any other game content-wise, that's probably the best one to do so as they have similarities on many levels. The main difference in the content philosophy is that in Evolve you have to pay for additional content while you get it for free at Splatoon. Evolve got criticized for it's moneygrabbing, but most reviews liked the gameplay and very few had anything to even say about the basic content - which means no bad thing to say about it. Since here the additional content comes for free, I don't think reviews or reception will be bad, as the things which went bad on Evolve are not present in Splatoon.

Evolve actually is a great example, and I agree with you completely. Any game that gives away post-launch content for free is fine in my book.

Is 32€ on Amazon Spain, I would pay that just for the main campaign and Turf Mode lmao.

Here there´s people shitting about the game since it was revealed. As if Nintendo lied to someone, at first the only thing that Nintendo showed to us was Turf mode, that´s all. Now we have single campaign, battle dojo, splat zones and tons of gear and weapons. And we know that tons of new contents, including 2 new modes, more maps and more stuff are coming through the next 2 months... Nintendo has not lie to anyone, the content is now bigger than ever.

Do you want what the game has at launch? You buy it, you don´t? you wait, you are going to get everything you wanted and more (except voice chat :P) just in 2 months, for free. That´s all. Simple. They never overpromised anything, that´s why nobody is bitching about it, except the people that was talking shit from the very begining.

From what I played, it didn't really feel yet like there are only 5 maps. Even just having 2 maps at a time during the Demo was something you didn't really feel because the map changes so much with the splattering.

Evolve did get crucified. It also allegedly bombed. How much content did Evolve launch with, though. I'm 99% sure it completely dwarfs what Splatoon is launching with. Evolve also isn't the same situation at all. Evolve wasn't critiziced for a severe lack of content at launch. It was criticized for rampant microtransactions.

Splatoon is a new IP, with completely different gameplay than anything they've done. And they're really busy supporting the console by themselves. The thing is, gameplay adjustment and balance concerns takes a huge ammount of testing and feedback when dealing with something this new. As nintendo releases this, the players will take a big role on helping the game development and save them a time they're not willing to lose. That is how most software is built nowadays, specially non gaming stuff. It just shows nintendo is getting on with the times, whether it's a good change for people who are particularly excited to play this game or not. But don't worry, Splatoon will eventually get awesome and spawn a much more awesome sequel.

This game is gonna get reviewed based on what it has day 1, and for a new IP reviews are important so I think they should have delayed the game til everything was ready.

The game itself is very good, and I do plan getting it on launch.

With that said, I am still skeptical of some things in launch/post-launch such as Day 1 DLC (amiibo), lack of friend lobbies until August, and the lack of VC for the rest of post-launch.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Titanfall was lacking on content and doesn´t even have a single campaign. Still had a great score.

Portal 1 and 2 had amazing scores because the game was fresh, polish, fun and with a very innovative concept. They are 5 and 7 hours long. 90 and 95 on meta.

Certainly not ideal situation but far from worse. My problem is that i start to worry about free space on Wii U when thoughts of downloadable content arises. Hopefully the maps and other stuff are compressed well.

As for the price. It seems to be budget priced in Europe but full price title in North America. Weird stuff.

Titanfall's review with the most views (basically more than all the other reviews put together) shits on the game for lack of content.  The game's price quickly plummeted to $20 to keep sales going because it got that stigma of not having enough content and people got bored of it quick, Nintendo isn't dropping the price of of their games to $20 (hell I'd be surprised if Splatoon gets a price drop at all) so its legs are gonna be cut if it gets that stigma.

But is not going to have that stigma, because the game is extremely good, feels extremely fresh, is not going to get boring soon because it feels like something new, it has a single campaign and the new stuff is coming very soon for free, and everybody interested knows what is coming, when is coming and for what price (0$).
