Forums - Politics Discussion - Why Are You An Atheist?

Because I'm angry at God.

Pretty much this.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Everyone is an atheist, some just believe in one god less than others.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I was forced to be Catholic growing up, and never believed the crap the church tried to shove down my throat. They could never answer my questions like where did god come from? Was Jesus a zombie, since he rose from the dead? How was it possible for Noah to fit 2 of every animal on a friggin boat? Haven't been back to a church in almost 20 years now.

We actually had a poll before on a thread about what system of belief you have or something like that. Atheist got the highest number.

Really? I think I was there for that, actually. Must've forgotten.

It's pretty interesting when you think about it, because the odds of the majority of a random sample of people from around the world being atheist are quite low.

I would think the nature of this forum/site wouldn't be an unbiased sample group tho.

But if you think about it if you had 20 religions in the world with equal number of followers to each, then say that 5% of each religions population didn't believe their God to exist (and not convert to one of the other 19) then you would end up with each religion having 95% of their populations and Atheists would assume 20x5% from each = 100%, that's based on 20 religions in the world and 5% not believing.

I think that only one (or none) of the classic religions can be right because the statements exclude each other and are not compatible with each other. Also religion and science are not compatible with each other. But science seems to be much more accurate, although the origin of life is still completely unknown and it is very unlikely that life (in the form of the genetic code system) was born on earth.

The best and most realistic definition of our world cannot be found in any religion but if there is some kind of god, in my opinion the definition found in Xenoblade Chronicles (which is a story about god and the creation of the world in a unique way that is 100% compatible with science) may be closest to reality.

Religion should not be about what we believe, religion should be about the truth.

I simply can't believe in things that have zero evidence, contraditory and so on... I think people needs religion to have some support and follow a moral code, I admire spirituality but don't like religion (although some segments of some religion have good social programs).

Myself I believe that maybe a god exist in some way or form, or that he created the universe, but not in a single explanation given by theists... I simply believe in the possibility because science haven't been able to completely disprove god.

And again I have an incapacity to believe in the absurdity that some religions present as facts.

Point that they are outnumbered by people who don't share their beliefs stands.

You said christianity wasn't the most commonly believed religion, and then went on to say islam was the most commonly believed religion. Just tellin you, that's not the case.

A fact that I have confirmed upon further research. However, the point that Christianity is not a majority still stands, as majority would be any degree higher than 50%.
