Nintendo fans haven't had any first party offering for around four months. Their console hasn't had any mega hit games in that time. So the first week sales should be wonderful regardless. The most important sales figure in North America is whether the title can get over three million in domestic sales, and following the law of halves that might take a few months. Basically beyond three million and the title is proving a point.

Thats when a title begins to prove it has appeal beyond the hardcore fanatics. So that is what is most interesting. The only title to really do that on the platform was Galaxy. Everything else has stalled out under three million in spite of the growing user base.

Do you mean stall under 3 mill domestically? Because if you don't, you are missing one very important game that jumped way over 3 mill and is selling very good amounts to this day. That game is Twilight Princess. 4.64 worldwide (over 6 mill including the gc version).

 You do realise that the first FF on a system sells about 2mil first week in Japan alone?  Beat Halo for an FF is not hard at all.

if they had printed more copies I think it could have outsold halo 3 week 1.
But it sold really well in japan, while Halo3, like most good 360 games, only sold ok.

Great numbers!! I know the shipment was huge. I check a few stores and they had tons of copies and sold tons. They also actually had supplies of Wiis!! A very rare site around these parts so to see them available in multiple stores was quite surreal.

There's no doubt this weeks numbers on Wii are low ww because Wiis were diverted for SSBB NA launch. Can't wait to see how many Wiis sold and SSBB final numbers for this week.

ff13 is a niche game and there aren't as many rpg fans as there used to be

ff13 isn't outselling halo 3 first week...none of the past ones did, as that's why halo 3 has the record...and the past ones launched to consoles with a FAR greater install base (especially in japan) than ps3 has...
