Forums - Gaming - Xenoblade Chronicles X boosted WiiU sales more than Mario Kart 8 (On Japan)

¿?

Good boost 88 79.28%

Meh 6 5.41%

WiiU doomed 17 15.32%

Total:111

Mario Kart 8, the bigger system seller on WiiU, a game that has now sold 5m WW and more than a milion on Japan, boosted WiiU sales from an average of 6/8k (like now) to 19k. So:

MK8: 19k boost VS XCX: 23K boost.

Not so bad after all.

For the people saying "Golden Week" I had to remember you that last year WiiU was just up from 6k to 8k for the golden week.

Golden week 2014: 8K VS Golden Week 2015: 23K

And don´t tell me that the expansion of Dragon Quest has something to do because the original DQX (that you need in order to play the new expansion) is not even on top 20 on any chart. That means less than 4k, probably less than 3k. So no, DQX did not boost the console.

Some people may argue that the Golden Week thing helped.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Ah nice!

It'd be cool to see XCX move units worldwide as well.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Not really. Xenoblade wasn't the only new game releasing that week and it was also golden week which would have given it a boost as well.

Besides I don't expect this boost to last as long as the Mario Kart one did either.

You are wrong if you think that the expansion od Dragon Quest has boosted WiiU sales, not even a 10% of that boost is from DQ. That game is an expansion of a previous game, If you don´t buy the first one, you can´t play this one, and we hadn´t see great sales of Dragon Quest X this week, so no, this boost comes from XCX. Also, last year on the Golden Week the WiiU sold around 8k, now is 23k. It´s XCX fault.

I believe as well, Mario Kart is an occult type of games that mostly enjoyed by avid Nintendo gamers, while Xenoblade X popular  among JRPG fan base that mostly came from PS fan. So many people (RPG fans on PS camp would love to buy the consoles only for this games.  (including me )

Mario 3D world and Smash were released on Holidays, of course they boosted more. Wii Party is the 2 best selling WiiU game on Japan. Dragon Quest is one of the biggest franchises on japan, and it made even less than XCX (21k). Pikmin is the strange case here, but is way more popular on Japan than Xeno.

Anyway I´m not talking about a huge surprise, I´m saying that it was a good boost all things considered, one of the best non-holidays boost the wiiu has ever had.
