Epic Games - Consoles have left PC games behind
March 10th, 2008Epic Games co-founder Tim Sweeney says that consoles are definitely the dominant force in the gaming industry. He says that PC games have been catering to the high-end user, which is only a small percentage of the market. The mainstream PC user doesn’t play games because their computer cannot handle it, but it can do MySpace, Facebook, and other things like that just fine. Ignoring the mainstream user has alienated PC gamers, and that’s why things have gone downhill.
I really love consoles because I don’t have to worry about upgrading them. Buying a PC is such a painful experience. There are so many things that can block you from enjoying any number of games. To buy a gaming platform that already has obsolete parts just 6 months after purchasing…that doesn’t make sense. A console gives you anywhere from 4-6 years…which is a much better turnaround in my opinion.

I disagree. PC's were never very casual except for The Sims 2 and that's only because that game can practically run on any computer.
PC games are designed with the "hardcore" in mind because they are the only people playing games on it. Just look at Unreal Tournament. People don't play because the learning curve is so steep and the people who play that game play it on a competitive level. So new people to the fray just give up because they are no good. There are exceptions to this like I said earlier (with Sims 2) but do you guys think PC games are being left behind?
