Hmm, based on region alone. I think I have to go with the Kalos region. The area overall found to be very lacking and forgetful. The routes for Kalos all end up returning to the center city, and the journey felt like an overall straight path with not many interesting areas to visit. I can barely remember X and Y myself.

Now obviously my reaction has been hyperbolic and everyone has their opinions but I must get this off my chest. I just can't comprehend why anyone who has played more than just the first two generations can say Johto (or Kanto for that matter) is THE best region. Other than nostalgia of course. 

Johto only has 10 towns, little variation in landscapes (like deserts, jungle, swamps, volcanoes, etc.), Pokemon variation in Johto proper is lacking, level curve is piss poor (I can't stand that my Pokemon are barely at level 40 by the Elite 4), and team rocket was an absolute joke.

I still like the games of course but after playing through awesome regions like Hoenn and Sinnoh, Johto just can't compare. Rant over lol

100% with you. Steps into 3d aside, x and y are the worst pokemon games to me. I feel like an extra year in the oven would have helped but they needed a 3ds pokemon now so whatever they had would do
