You make decent points, but at the same time, can you really say that console gamers aren't more likely to buy a game at full price than PC gamers? That's not what I've seen on PC gaming forums and my friends.

I would say the big plus for publishers on consoles is preorders.  Because more console players prefer physical, preorders are easier to drive up.  Also, console players seem to be less informed often times.  PC gamers tend to be more informed and less interested in preordering unless there's a big in game bonus.  And of course, Preorders are always full price.  That's probably the primary source of distortion.  Also, because sales can be quite crazy on steam, people are more willing to buy more games that they are partially interested in.  This also could explain the reason there are many purchases of games on sale.  There are still plenty of early, full price buyers, but more people also buy more games on the side that they are only somewhat interested in.

So can we agree that what works on PC doesn't necesarilly work on consoles?

I hope this game is successful enough for a sequel that fixes all these mistakes.

Why do we have Black Friday, in the UK we have January sales and so on does that mean we all don't buy anything at full price? No, it's a once in a while treat.

No on buys PC games at retail because platforms like Steam exist this is a silly question to even ask it's like asking why doesn't anyone use floppy disks, have you ever gamed on PC and know the hassle Steam cuts out from retail games, all your back log on one platform and account. No need to enter key codes, look for patches from the developer and all that rubbish to top it off they can't be returned at retail.

You do realize you can buy digital games on consoles right? How come retail sales are higher than digital sales then (conso:les)?

Because the benefits of right of first purchase still exist on consoles:  trading, lending, reselling, etc.  PC doesn't have that so the benefits of the Steam platform obviously outweigh the benefits of physical ownership (which is basically none).

Was the direct kinda boring, yes. But lack of content? I disagree, turf war seems extremely re playable, Splat zones will be cool. The tower mode will be there within a month. A cool single player. Loads of weapons and equipment. And splat fests. Ill be getting this day one, and still be playing it when they release FREE new stuff!

Yeah and? You missed out a key part of the post which is have you ever gamed on PC? If you have you'd know retail for PC is different from retail on consoles, why do you think the bulk of second hand games in stores are console games for a start, the comparison is flawed.

Oh I can agree to that.  I just don't think this release plan is an example of that.  The only question is how satisfying the launch gameplay is.  It only has to last a month or two until the first update hits to freshen things up.  And since it is free there's no loss of value in my eyes, just a delay of gratification.  How you receive this model is all down to how you view return on investment and how immediacy of gratification factors into that.  For me, the summer window is immediate enough.

Because most games are bought digitally.

I'm one of those people that buys PC games at retail btw. I never sell my games once I bought them. You barely get any money from them anyway.

What's this? A thread about a nintento game, where 9 out of ten scream "DOOM" and "FUCK YOU NINTENDO!!" ?
Shock horror! This never happens, right?

And guess why they're bought digitally.

Because they're dirt cheap on Steam. I'm sure there are more reasons, that I don't deny. Feel free to inform me of them. I'm guessing DRM?

It's also 40 in Austria and on Amazon Germany. The special edition with amiibo costs 60.

Is it a new trend that amiibos are getting more expensive? Yoshi's Woolly World also slaps 20+ Euro on top of the standalone price.

The Wooly World are special though, maybe that's the reason. Also retailers are simply increasing the price. I was in a game store today were they sold somewhat rare Amiibo like Toon Link and Wario for €25. As if scalpers aren't bad enough...

I saw it for 45€ including the Amiibo at german retailer Media Markt, so that may just be Amazons pricing being wierd. I was surprised people kept saying it was 60 bucks.
