regardless of art direction graphical quality is a big deal to me.

color palettes and artstyle are a different thing from constant framerate, resolution and good animation of the characters. I think good lighting is vital to the immersion in any game.

whether it's cell shaded or full on 3D it doesnt matter to me as long as it's beautiful and flawless HD. It's not the only factor important to measure a game's quality but this isnt the 90's anymore.

Gameplay is king. Its why I like Nintendo. 60 frames per second means better control and more precise gameplay. I don't know what I would do without it. Am I saying that I would prefer everything to be 8 bit? No. But if the gameplay is exciting enough I will play just about anything.

I thought people purchase another system mainly to play upcoming games that are not coming to the previous console, but whatever...

The amount of remasters and remakes this generation would say differently. The fact they are selling well also says a lot.

I never meant to say that's it's the only reason, but it is a reason why people upgrade as well.

Well, players have to play something while gen exclusives arrive. That's why remasters sell that well. Also, this gen is something completley different from what we have been seen before, so there is no precedents. Until now, upcoming exculsive games where the main reason to buy a new system. And I think it still is. It's just that this gen was so hyped that people decided to buy the system even if they had to wait to play actually "new" games.

And by they way, I did not said that as well. I just thought that you meant that graphics where your main reason to not stick with the same system, which if truth, it's bullshit, because obviously what you want to do with your new system is play new games. Upgraded graphics are a thing, but games are the main thing. But you said you didn't mean that, so I was mistaken.

I obviously want good graphics and overall their about 30% of my enjoyment to a game. If a game is good gameplay wise though I don't mind going down to even ( 480P ) on my PC to play it. In fact I regularly play at 480P on my PC since it can't run a lot of new games ( Waiting until I am finally buy a Ps4 )

But isn't it because systems have increased their graphics that developers leave the old consoles and make new games for these new consoles. Otherwise they would just use the same consoles. It all revolves around graphics at the end of the day when it comes to new hardware being released.

Yeah my message didn't come across correcty. S'all good then.

Very important for me.

I plyed MK8 yesterday and took some joy out of the gorgeous graphics. I love Child of Light for its gorgeous graphics.

As long as there is solid gameplay, I don't really care too much abut graphics, though being able to look at a beautiful game that plays and handles nicely is a great experience.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

We feel the same. I like The Order but I haven't finished it because the gameplay just hasn't hooked me. Meanwhile Xenoblade on 3DS looks like a greasy poop and I want to stop this post so I can go play it right now!

Gameplay first. After the initial hook that graphics provide, you kind forget to care about them. It's kind o of line a movie with good special effects. If the story looks is great, the movie can look like a cheap play and it won't matter.

To me ideally the graphics should at least be good enough not to get in the way of the gameplay. I am a sucker for nice visuals though. I like games with unique Art styles, so for me more realistic ≠ better. The thing is that even Pixel game can benefit a lot visually from modern light engines for example.
I thinks it's important when discussing graphics to make the distiction between the technical factors (though I'm not too good at that :P) and the visuals/art style.
