then u haven't looked at the American audience very well...who do u think bought absizers, ab king pro, thighmaster, ab deluxe, 5 minute abs, 4 minute abs, 3 minute abs, taebo, richard simmons' videos, etc etc?

 Oh plenty of American's buy the initial equpimpent, I just wouldn't put my money down on attachments -_-; My mother ownes 3 of those said products and uses them... never lol. I see many people picking up Wii-fit to get motivated, then once the motivation... ceases at a blistering halt, storing said product in the closet, and it never sees the light of day again. I'm just not so sure software will get anywhere out here.

the casual exercise market, which is the masses

 the masses are casual exercisers, not 'really into exercise'

 to make it clear: it will sell to, and is targeted to, the 90+% of Americans that are somewhat into being healthy, but not motivated enough to be 'really into exercise'...

to clarify, 'really into exercise' here means those who go to gym and lift weights consistently and run 5 miles a day, etc

there are many who work out several days a week and want to stay fit, but aren't 'really into exercise'...these people will also be target customers for wii fit...the women who join curves and who do pilates and step aerobics and buy thigh masters and jog a little each day...they are not so 'into exercise' that they dismiss wii fit as 'a toy' or 'not effective'

hardcore exercisers buy the expensive gym equipment or having gym memberships

casual exercisers buy an ab king pro here and a thighmaster there...many of those pieces of equipment costing 500+ when they came out and were so popular

also, it doesn't matter sales-wise if people don't use wii fit, just if they buy it

however, i fully believe it will have a higher % of people using it 1 year later than products like ab row king and thighmaster as it is a VIRTUAL TRAINER that provides MOTIVATION...the other products give u no motivation other than internal motivation

gyms: motivated by fact that you are paying for it
personal trainer: motivated by the trainer to workout
workout partner: motivated by the partner to workout
wii fit: motivated by the progress it shows you and the training/routine it gives you
ab lounger/thighmaster/treadmill/stationary bike/etc: no motivation other than yourself; equipment is a sunk cost

I don't think Wii Fit will do amazingly well in the US market honestly. I suspect the game will be a hit, and probably break a million, but not much beyond that. I can see myself being wrong, but $90 on-top of a $250 console just strikes me as sligtly too much. Maybe it will ignite the light home workout market and be a smash success. I see it just doing decently well and being an add-on that is never really used 6 months down the line.

maybe Curves...they succeeded because they allowed women to workout with privacy (no men staring at them) in a short amount of time with set pre-planned workouts

wii fit will allow them to work out in complete privacy in a short amount of time with set pre-planned workouts

the great thing about wii fit compared to a simple vhs tape is that it detects how you are doing the exercise so u can see if u are doing it right or wrong

doing an exercise properly is one of the key components to actually making progress...
