Hey! So after recently completing Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut for the Wii U, I feel I should give a few of my thoughts on the game!
I'll start off with a little bit of history. I have known about this game for a while now, but it wasn't until about two weeks ago that I played it. Reason being that I never got a chance to play it before. I had an Xbox 360 with a couple games on it. Still never got around to buying it. The concept of the game really intrigued me, with open-ended exploration, RPG elements, and stealth. It didn't seem like your typical FPS. Anyway, I always considered getting this game eventually, whether for Xbox, or for PC, since it wasn't on my console of choice. Still never got a chance to play it. Then, the Director's Cut version was announced for Wii U in 2013. At first, I still wasn't able to get it. So, let's jump ahead to two weeks ago, where I finally purchased it, and played it! Also, it's quite coincidental that I bought this game a week or so before the sequel was announced!
Thoughts
So, i'll start off by saying that this is a FANTASTIC game. One of the things I love about the game is its open-ended nature, where you can freely explore certain hub areas, and do side quests in different orders. What also got me was the fact that the game wasn't necessarily about shooting or killing. You could go through most of the game without killing or shooting, really. It's seems to be mainly a stealth game, so I wouldn't have it any other way. The story is also quite engaging, getting deeper and deeper as your progress through the game, encountering many twists and turns. This game also uses a choice system, in which lots of your choices will affect certain outcomes. I thought this system was one of the best things about the game, since every now and then, you'd be faced with a critical and difficult decision. HR also has to be commended for it's use of music. Unlike a lot of games in this genre, this game actually HAS music that plays while your playing. I love the fact that, while exploring large hub areas, there's tthese ambient techno themes playing. It gives the game such a different feel. Think of System Shock, and how there's always techno style music playing in the background. Now, the only flaw I found in this game is that the levels and areas didn't have much variety in terms of style and asthetics. Other than that, the game is fantastic.
Anyway, sorry if my thoughts are not as thorough as they should be. This is not meant to be a full review, but just my quick thoughs. Thanks for reading, and hopefully i'm not the only one on these forums who enjoyed this game! Now that a sequel has just been announced (and quite coincidentally, too), I might have to wait for the next Nintendo console for a port :P
