Will Bayonetta 3 be multi plat of NIntendo exclusive?

Nintendo Exclusive 285 56.44%

Multi Plat 60 11.88%

They won't make a 3rd 160 31.68%

Bayonetta 2 sales in 2014:

VGC:  > 300k
NPD:  < 135k

It's quite overtracked here and it does change the picture. I doubt sales are good enough to warrant a sequel unless whoever is funding is very much aware they'll be losing money doing so.

If that happens, it will be Nintendo exclusive.

I don´t think that the possibility of a third Bayonetta is completely out of question. If Nintendo is willing to fund it, I don´t see why Platinum would turn down their offer, like they didn´t turn down their last one.

Actually, the game did pretty good to their standards. The orignal Bayonetta (Which sold a combined 2m+ on both the PS3 and 360) was considered a flop by Micro and Sony, which is why they didn't fund the game and Nintendo stepped in. It is almost at 700k retail and the game hasn't even been out for a full year yet. It still has a good 2-3 years left.

Actually, it was stated in the first NPD for the game that it was overtracked.  VGchartz had it at over 300k whereas NPD said it failed to reached 145k.  Anyway even with VGchartz numbers, If the game was considered a flop at 2m, they game definitely is a flop at 700k considering that the game has an equal development budget.

They funded the game as an attempt to have diversity and attract core gamers from ps3/360 which failed to do so.

Sega, as a third party developer, has different expectations on succes for a game. Also there is no evidence the budget is the same. Development costs decrease with sequels, particularly because assets are reused/modified.

I don't consider Bayonetta 2 a flop. 0.7M in a console with only 9.4M, a game which is consider to be very niche... it's not that bad. I don't think Nintendo considers Bayo 2 a flop, and they would be delusional if they thought they could bring a lot of people from PS4/One only because of this game. They know what they were funding, it's not a system seller, only a good game, different to what Nintendo has to offer. And that's it.

I want Vanquish 2 and Metal gear rising 2 .

Either Nintendo exclusive, or non-existent.

The only option I see for now is Nintendo exclusive. Bayo2 probably broke even long run but no way it made enough for Sega to pick it up and make it multi. I could see Nintendo purchasing a controlling interest a la Fatal Frame to further diversify their IP library and secure a new M rated franchise.

It will never see the light of day....

It is near the end of the end....

When it comes to Bayonetta 2, who owns what is still unclear to me but I think Nintendo own Bayo2 exclusive (could be timed like Mass Effect 1) yet Platinum Games still owns the IP.

I could see Nintendo dropping this due to low sales and possibly Sega picking it back up or even Sony. And maybe by then maybe Bayo2 exclusivity would be up and get ported to PS4.

It's hard to be sure without knowing how much Nintendo invested in Bayonetta 2 or how many sales they hoped for, but these two seem like the most probable outcomes. If it sold enough for Nintendo to be happy with the investment then they'll likely want another. If it didn't then i doubt anyone else will be particularly interested in the IP either (especially while Nintendo holds the right to the 2nd game).

It will also depend on how Platinum's other projects work out. If something like Scalebound ends up doing very well they might decide their efforts are better spent on stuff like that.
