Jesus christ. I guess Audiophiles must be one dedicated bunch to think they could get away with that 1.2k pricing.

Audiophiles are the kind of moron that will pay hundreds of dollars for 'top of the line' hdmi cables that do the exact same thing as one that costs $12 with no discernable difference from their expensive counterpart.  As it stands they will spend thousands of dollars on a tube amp just for their vinyl collection, so $1.2k isn't exactly unreasonable for idiots like them.

What market are they targeting with that price point?!

Rich people.

I don't think they are the target either. People are usually smarter with money namely when they have money.  I go with lottery winners.

if I had the money to spare, I would buy one.

I hope there aren't any Audiophiles on this site reading that, but I agree.

Most of my technology is Sony brand (phone, tv, headphones, console, speakers, editing software) but no way even if I was rich would I buy this. A seperate device for listening to music is just inconvenient for me, Z phones' clear audio + is great already.

The "I buy stuff to show otehrs what I have money for" crowd. Just watch how crazy the sales of the most expensive Apple Watch will be and how stupid that is considering that you get a really really good and complicated Swiss or Glashütte watch for that money (which needs a crazy amount of man-hour per build watch)

and why is an iphone 700€?

Because people will pay it.  They have gotten people to buy into a gimmick.  It has been the focus of their operation model for the past 15 years.  It certainly isn't because it is worth that price in functionlity, quality, or durability.

/EDIT:  Also, no one pays full price for a phone, at least not in the US.  You sign a 2 year contract and get it for free.

which means you pay it with your contract. What do you pay in AMerica for a contract and some interent flat + flat or some free minutes for phone calls?

Haha, well, you're mostly right...and I'm saying this as someone who is in sound post. The so called audiophile gear is just plain silliness, since pro gear is what we make actual sound/music on, and it's usually not on par with high end audiophile gear. But as long as there is market for that, there will be brands making such gear.

I'll take twelve.
