For the same reason I think NPD is fairly irrelevant, this particular battle is of no real concern to me. Taken as a whole, there simply is no competition, and breaking things down into NPD, or Japan sales etc... is the only way people can parse the data to give the impression of a fair fight.  Much like focusing solely on Holiday sales in the US. 

Not only do I think PS4 will win the holidays, I think by the end of the year, PS4 will have taken the lead in Japan. With the list of already announced games, and the huge potential for basically all major future Japanese games landing on the platform, it is going to be the start of a huge couple of years for PS4. TGS this year, is going to be an absoltue orgy of new PS Vita and PS4 exclusives.

Thought op was maybe talking about golden week at first, which is at least coming up. At this juncture ps4 will probably win unless wii u gets a much needed price cut.

Wii U sold only around 950k in 2013 in Japan, this isn't very hard to top. Why shouldn't PS4 top that? It already sold 990k in 2014 and 2015 is looking to be a much better year.

Ryng, see the thing is the reason I wont bet in this is very simple. Sony loves ot bundle, nintendo doesn't. Sony will bundle everything a lot of games in the holidays and make deals, nintendo will rely on their IPs and bundle smasha and Kart (hopefully they bundle xenoblade too). Unless nintendo goes price cut and bundles its going to be tough because sony and dem bundles.
