It could potentially survive for the life of the PS4. Less demanding games can be easily ported to it and Japan keeps supporting it. Also, its a nice accessory for PSNow and streaming PS4.
I dont think Sony wants to make another handheld or kill their only relevance in the mobile market. Maybe they will consider releasing an improved Vita. Thats cheaper than launching a new platform.

It's a disaster zone. Probably by the end of 2016 most/many retailers will start phasing out the Vita section entirely in North America anyway. Like for example I can't even find the stand Vita charger in many stores anymore. I lost mine and it was a pain in the ass tracking down a new one. |
3 Stores in town here stock its games, but yeah all price them far higher than the games are on psn so there is little to no point buying them at retail, I don't fancy giving Gamestop 20+ euros for LBP when it's on the store for 7, I mean it's nice that they give it shelf space but why bother when they're not competing with games available right on the systems own shop.
It's not just Vita games they do that for to be honest tho, gamestop here sells Smash 3ds for 54.99 I got it day one from the eshop for 10euros less, was the first retail game I got from the E-shop but there is no way I'm paying 10euros extra for gamestop to stay open fleecing customers like that.

I'll be really sad if we have a generation of handheld gaming with no controls at all, high chances of it happening but if the only options from Sony/Nintendo are touchscreen tablets I'll be happily residing in the 3ds/Vita generation til I die.

Same. Got a backlog of over 100 Vita games I want to play anyway with quite a lot of them being RPGs plus a load more coming out this year and whatever next year brings. Should certainly tide me over even if physical controls were eschewed entirely. But I don't think they will be. I think although it'll be mobile compatible, Nintendo will still put out a dedicated system for their software, even if its just a limited collectors edition thing for purists.

Just to let you know Nintendo's next handheld wont touch a PSVita in specs........ 3DS is not much better than a PSP

The Vita could have a lifespam similar to the Gameboy. I'm sure the console will be cheaper to manufacture in two or three years, and it could be sold at a 99€ in a couple of years. The Vita is a very poweful handheld, it could last another generation.

The truth is, phones are replacing nearly everything, all of gaming is in jeopardy, Handhelds are simply unfortunate enough to get invaded first, like Poland
