Forums - Nintendo - Sonic Lost World, is it more difficult or more unfair than Tropical Freeze?

Which is it?

Sonic is harder! 8 18.18%

Sonic is unfair! 36 81.82%

Total:44

No, it's not a more difficult game. Donkey Kong is far from unfair, sonic... it has its moments. It could also mean you are just better at donkey Kong than Sonic in this scenario. They are different games after all.
DK is a harder game by design, Sonic can be hard but due to poor design.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Uh it has to be one or the other lol. Also I had 99 lives by the third Island and half of my deaths came from the rocket barrel levels with their awful controls so I would definitely say DK is easier if we're gonna assume Sonic is difficult. It helps that Dixie's midair jump can be used anytime you go airborne versus Sonic's midair jump only usuable after jumping or hitting a spring. Dixie's Kong pow and the green balloons also help keep you from dying, while rings shields and even invincibility wont save you from Sonic's many insta death hazards.

Did you collect everything? Did you do the temple stages?

I didn't 100% either game, just went through their main story. I know I'd still be playing DK if I went to get everything first, but I just wanted to speedrun through these games first, for reasons!

I guess what I'm really asking is what determines whether something is difficult or unfair.

I would say factors such as control, enemy placement, checkpoints, mechanics, etc.

For example, in Tropical Freeze, the controls are very precise and everything is very polished so whenever I fuck up I feel like it's my fault. In Sonic Lost World, the control is very finicky and hard to predict, so I feel like the game is to blame for a lot of my deaths.

But the game still doesn't control Sonic, you do! He wont jump if you don't press the jump button, wont run if you don't press the run button, etc.!

Never played Sonic Lost World, but from what I've heard much the game is flawed. I know that DKCTF has loads of trial and error, but I hear the added difficulty to Lost World comes from bad level design and mechanics.

bet: lost

Never played a DKC game before while I've played many Sonics so you'd think I'd atleast be as good at Lost World as I am with Tropical Freeze.

So the poor design is what makes it hard! xD

I beat Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze's main story in a day, dying around 30 times, whereas it'll have taken me two days to beat Sonic Lost World's main story, and I've died over 70 times with 2 gameovers, this before even beating the final level. Does this mean Sonic is actually the harder game despite what I had heard people saying about the difficulty in Tropical Freeze? Or does this mean Sonic is unbalanced n broken? The whole "everything insta kills you" in the later half of the game could be seen as unfair, but also as just a sharper difficulty spike. I dob't know, what are yal's thoughts on this!?

???? did you 100% it? that's your REAL challenge, the secret levels are no joke.

I didn't think Lost world was that hard at all honestly.

I think SLW was pretty easy, but yes, some red rings were unfair.

Especially the last one in Silent Forest 3 because the parcour system doesn't work as good as it should. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVU4RiO29iw#t=2m14s And I remember another one in a level on rails.

Well if you can get through the temple stage in world 2 with less than 50 deaths, then you are very good...

I didn't 100% Lost World either so still a fair comparison. Once I beat it's story I'll go back to DK.

Just saw a playthrough of it, perhaps I'll die a few times! xP
