Forums - Nintendo - Why aren't more games being made for the 3DS?

Oh, well similar to PS2, it had almost everything. Good or bad. For example, I could play a game like the Japanese only rpg Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch. Don't see quite as many games like that made for 3DS even in Japan, where devs just made games left and right, and often they turned out bad, but some times they were enjoyable, like in this case.
However, besides obscure games like that, there were several Castlevania games (the ones for 3Ds are not the traditional ones), Time Hollow (you draw with the stylus on the screen to open a portal to a different time), Super Robot Taisen, and I guess just more rpgs in general, like Disgaea, The World Ends With You, Spectral Force, Suikoden, Valkyrie Profile, to name a few.

It's not that these type of games aren't showing up on the 3DS though, but rather we seem to get less.
We got 6 Ace Attorney games for the DS. And while we got Resident Evil Revalations for the 3DS, the sequel skipped its original console, and was purely made for the home consoles. Things like that.

As for selling it, not only do I still have a few games left to play that I've already bought, but the 3Ds's ability to play DS games is also a plus for me, since I still have some DS games to beat. And while I said 3 games, that may be a bit misleading, since I will get Bravely Second as well. I just knew about it before I puyrchased my console. So that influenced my purchase.

I see. No proper Castlevania and the lack of a sequel to TWEWY are really sore points for me too, as well as what happened to RE:R2.

I don't really have that many a game for my 3DS when I bought mine in Oct 2013, I bought mine for Pokemon Y at the time and also grabbed ACNL, FE:A and then the following year I bought Link between Worlds and got gifted Super Mario 3D Land, that's 5 games I've had and played since 2013-2014, I suppose I could count having Sonic 1 (Master system version) and Sonic 2 (Gamegear) digitally.

I do wish there were a few more games out there to entice me, I am wanting to grab the latest MH but I'm waiting for N3DS to get a slight price drop, trade in my current 3DS and use that money towards the new unit. I'm also wondering if their next new handheld will be announced either next year or 2017, it would probably make snese for the lack of big titles now if they were to announce a new handheld in the next year or two.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Yeah I hope the next Ace Attorney game will come out in the west. We had 6 Ace Attorney games for the DS though, and we're goinng to get our third next year for 3DS. Although some of those DS AA games were ports, so not exactly a fair comparison, but still. Bravely Second I will pick up. I just knew about that one before I bought my console, and that influenced my deccision to buy it. The games it already had, and the games I knew it would get down the line. And then thirdly, the games I expected it to get down the line. And that's the part that's disappointed me.

Xeno 3D I just excluded because it doesn't function on the 3DS that I bought in 2013.
Otherwise I would have mentioned it for sure.

That's understandable.

For me, personally, no games could ever release for the 3DS ever again and I'd be fine. There are so many games that have already come out for it that I want to get, and I'm already really happy with the small library I have. I feel that production for 3DS games has slowed down due to it being near the end of its life. A similar situation happened to the DS in its final years, as well. This is also because most handheld developers jumped ship to mobile platforms, and Nintendo handhelds have almost never gotten western support.

3DS is tracking around 30% less than its predecessor during the same period of time. That's a hell of an impact. If the next Nintendo system follow this same route it will sell 35 million during the same period of time. It's not critical yet but not a pretty picture for the future of the handhelds.

but look at the OP, says we got games before so it has nothing to do with the decline in this discussion. HHs arent dead even if the next HH sold at 35mil.

Of course HH market won't be dead but look at size of Nintendo. Ask them if they're happy with this situation. Can you imagine the next Nintendo HH selling even less? Is that healthy from a business point of view? Any company wants its products to sell more than the previous products, specially big companies like Nintendo.

Same here--really not much for me on the system for the last year or so, whereas there were tons of games in the first few years. With the install base growing you'd think the point would be to actually INCREASE output as time went on. But game companies are just a conundrum as a whole, so I do my best to just not think about it.

New console is coming soon, devs are probably already working with dev kits for NX. We'll see a few more surprises for the console, no doubt as we did with DS. However, the lack of Japanese imports is also hurting the US 3DS library. 3DS is almost old by today's standards. It's been out for what, 4 years now? We'll see a couple new games at E3 that'll take us up to 2016/2017 and by then 3DS will be taking its final bows.

3DS's is library is great. I do however think it severely lacks the small experimental games GBA and DS had. Indie developers who specialize in experimental retro looking games are roughly the same size or smaller than the teams who worked on previous handhelds. Though they already found their audience on PC, consoles and sometimes Vita. It's tough for Nintendo to juggle two devices with minimal support from small developers.
