Leave the is dominance to microsoft, because Sony  has always been more successful  with new ips.

I agree with OP, the XMB was so simple and easy to use. The new OS looks nice but a pain to navigate through.

While it's true that the PS4 still doesn't have many features the PS3 does, that doesn't mean it hasn't improved since its release. Spotify has been added to both consoles, but I haven't been able to take advantage from it since I'm still on the PS3.

The XMB might still be simpler and faster, but it has outlived its usefulness. From what I've seen, the PS4's UI is a huge improvement without making it a nightmare to travel around it. And the XMB worked perfectly for the PSP. But a over-simplistic UI wouldn't have fit the PS4.

Now, I'll agree with you that the PS4 does need folders to organize games, and Sony needs to pick up on that.

The Xmb it's not faster, it's not easier, and just have 2 media capabilities that yet PS4 don't have. And that's all.

Whenever I want to watch a movie by myself I do so on my i6+. I'm not saying that the PS4 doesn't need to add more functionality though. Those who are like "I don't care, just pump out great games" don't forget that this is a $400 machine that was also marketed as a multimedia device. Being able to function as more than just a game console is kind of what the creators intended.


It was never marketed as a multimedia device, sony only marketed games and the social media aspect of it with their console.

The Xmb it's not faster, it's not easier, and just have 2 media capabilities that yet PS4 don't have. And that's all.

I'll admit it's extremely slow while using it during gameplay since I was stuck on the trophies for 2 minutes many times. But with no game on, it's quite fast to navigate, and it's lag free. It's more convenient if you use the left joystick instead of the D-pad. Then again, I don't have the PS4 yet, but I feel it's still quick.

Thats whats wrong with gaming systems today. Too much emphasis on non gaming items.

I dont use spotify and im sure many other people dont, yet they decide to spam everyone with it on the menu when it doesnt need to be there.

Soon enough, they will spam PS4 with apps you cant delete like their mobile phones.

The PS4 menu doesnt do a single thing for me which the XMB cant do.

LOL, pretty much this. 

On a more serious note, even though I quite liked the XMB on both PS3 & PSP, it seems a large number of folks did not. Having all recent apps share space with the games, as well as having dedicated apps for stuff like soundtracks, is not great. I actually liked having the PS Store in the upper menu...would be cool to have the option to put frequently used apps there as well, like the headphone app, PS video & music, etc. Maybe put the Library to the left of Whats New instead of the store.
