He does make a good point about nintendo's policies on this sort of stuff. If EA is willing to pay youtubers to cover their games in order to promote their games and advertise for them then what does that say about Nintendo? I wonder why the Wii U isn't selling that well....

pretty sure even if this whole youtube thing never had i'm pretty it would at least still be around the same number of units sold.

I like how most of the people who answered, "no" in a thread I made about whether or not Chuggaconroy's Xenoblade  videos will help Nintendo sell Xenoblade X are the same people in this thread saying Nintendo loses out big if they don't let people post any let's play they want involving Nintendo content without any obligations to provide money to Nintendo for use of their IP.

Chugga's fanbase is mostly Nintendo fans so I bet most of them already know about the game and he's a relatively small youtuber. Still it probably helped a bit. My little bro wants to buy Xeno X because of Chugga's videos. Anecdotal I know, but just saying.

He's not that much smaller than Angry Joe. 947,993 subscribers vs. 1,957,812 subscribers.

I understand what you're saying, watching someone play video games and review it, is not the same as playing the video game. Therefore Nintendo did not lose anything, in fact they gain a potential customer if they like what they saw from the video.

What if somebody only wants to experience the story of a game, and therefore will not purchase the game they would otherwise purchase because they can watch it online? Does that not hurt the developer/publisher, who created said content and did not receive money? The cutscenes took people's time and efforts just as much as the gameplay. People were paid to produce said story, cutscenes, music, etc.

I never heard or read about anyone watching a youtube or let's play vid to watch the story of video game so they wouldn't have to buy it. You're grasping at straw with that post. If you can show some articles/proof, by all means.

Someone who has never done any Nintendo-content before starts doing Nintendo-content just when they are introducing this program, nope doesn't seem opportunistic at all.

It's free advertisement and what does advertisement help with?

Heh, now Boogie2988 and TotalBiscuit are commenting on the situation on Twitter, needless to say, it's not very flattering to Nintendo.

it does help with advertisment but mainly for indies hell a lot of the big youtubers on youtube don't really play Nintendo games on their channels or just in general and lets face it there are bigger problems with the Wii U that caused it to have its other then the handling of youtube channels.

I have done it before (and I do it often) and I've read plenty of posts online/know people in real-life who have done it before. Most of the time you don't even need to watch a let's play. The cutscenes will be on youtube by themselves with no creative content (and they get plenty of views.) So....

For example, here is all Metal Gear Solid cutscenes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLTqIXZ1jQQ (64,000 views. )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a01GJ74X_R4 (Twin Snakes - 340,000 views.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AhGj4oisfU (Metal Gear Solid 4 - 277k views.)

Sure that barely affects a game like Metal Gear Solid, but a less acclaimed and more niche game would likely suffer larger losses from something like this. And sure not everybody who watched the cutscenes didn't play the game, but a percentage of them probably did. Even if they only watched half of the cutscenes they got enough of what they wanted for free.

The Order 1886 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61TKuj4_Oxg (176k views.)

I don't understand why anyone would watch these fools on youtube play video games.
