Forums - PC - AMD preparing to Hunt the Titan X

Wish I never bought my AMD card. Got it for a great deal though, r9 280 and its better than a 760 spec wise which is why I bought it. Just artifacts randomly. Maybe due to older mobo though, not sure but I'm pretty sure its AMD's bad drivers.

But competition is always good.

a lot of shader effects for me are just green mud - and I have a Nvidia card (well, it's an old GTX 460)

artifacts can also be a sign of heat problems though

Wait until 20nm cards in a couple of years, or worth investing?

if you can wait that long, then you should definitely wait

if you want an awesome system in the next few month however AMD could be a surprisingly good option

Well I'm conflicted. I don't know whether 4k gaming is worth it, or whether I should go for 1440p 120hz.

I thought 390X was going to be 20nm?

As much as I like AMD, let's not forget that if they play this game then they must beat the Titan X; the card will be out months after the Titan so it better beat it in performance (and will surely beat it price).

Much like unfair comparisons to later-launched Nvidia cards, since it's coming out later --> it should be better.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

if you have something around r9 290x or 780ti, theres no real point in upgrading until stacked gddr, 4k isnt a worthwhile jump yet and games arent warranting the extra power yet.

dont point to sloppy performance caused by shitty optimization as proof of cards hitting their limits, either.
Also let's not forget the effects of DX12 on current cards, too.

Rumour has it that the 390X will be 20nm and have stacked memory. I'm probably more hopeful than expectant though. It would really push Nvidia to step up their game. I would love to see what their 20nm Titan could do.

if it is, i wouldnt go for it, for pc hardware i always try to avoid first gen versions of advancements.

True. I only just bought a GTX 970 though so I'm in no rush. I'm just always keen to know what's next.
