Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

titibgosse, You should roll the mouse over the graphs, there you can see the precise numbers.

Nice start, but the lack of european figures is sad because it doesn't the same impact for each console.

Great work ioi!

reverie > first time I click on the chart, it becomes interactive and i can see numbers. but if I click again on it, I go to http://www.maani.us/charts/index.php impossible to have the same boxes than you ?!! i try with Firefox and IE 7

http://www.vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=DS&reg1=Japan&cons2=GBA&reg2=America&cons3=PS2&reg3=America&align=1 thats probably the most intresting compairation ds(japan) vs gba + ps2(USA) if you ask, me, it really gave me a perspective on ds in japan.

titibgosse, My pictures are fake, just a suggestions for ioi! You don't have to click, just roll the mouse over the graph. That link to maani.us tells me that we probably won't see a lot of customizations on those graphs though, or will we?

ioi, any chance we could get the chart with a zoom tool, or perhaps the ability to create contraints so we can view one section of the chart to see the sale trends over a particular period, because like with the PS2 and PS3 comparison the two lines run together so closely that its hard to really see the differences in their sales

Ok, a couple of things:

4) The server isn't particularly unstable, rather it gets a huge amount of traffic. Generating one of those charts takes up a lot of computational time, same with calculating totals and so on since it is all done dynamically on the fly. I have been trying to speed up our queries and do things to take load off the server a little, so things should be more stable now than they were but if you are having specific problems please email me...

Can't you run a nightly job that generates the chart once a day or even once a week? There is only so many variants and the data doesn't change much during the week. This way it will reduce the server load.

Also, why is the 360 < 7million?  shouldn't it be 9.7?
