Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What do you want from Pokemon gen 7?

That seems like it wouldn't really make sense. I mean then the player character would just be cheating to win, especially odd when you consider the bad guys were the ones fighting fairly. If the player is gonna cheat then surely the bad guys would cheat just as much if not more than the player.

Then literally every other JRPG makes no sense, because I literally only described a typical boss fight.

I really want a wolf, dolphin, and koala pokemon. My friends say Mightyena is a wolf, but it's definitely a hyena. That's even in its name! I would like at least 100-120 new species, with at least 15 old pokemon getting new evolutions, not just Mega Evolutions.

Not really, other JRPGs are different games. Pokemon is Pokemon and it has it's own set of rules for battles. These rules have been there from the beginning and are focused on the anime as well.

Not really. Bad guys are bad guys, and Pokemon is a game. They don't have to follow anything. If a trainer is fighting an evil opponent who's clearly over leveled, there's no reason to beleive the trainer wouldn't throw away rules, which wouldn't even be enforced outside of gym and league matches, to survive. There is no Pokemon game tradition that says that the odds can't be stacked against the player like that. Pokemon changes with every new game.

If the player were to do that though why wouldn't the opponent do the same in response? You said it would be like other JRPG boss battles earlier, but other JRPG bosses don't have a load of other potential battlers stored away in their pocket that they could pull out to even the numbers unlike Pokemon.

Because it's a game where nonsense in that kind of logic happens all the time, and it would be more fun that way. If the opponent cared about logic, every evil team would have 100 revives/full restores, trainers wouldn't shout out which Pokemon they're sending out next while waiting for you to pick a Pokemon to counter it, and the team leaders and grunts wouldn't mysteriously be at just the right level for you to beat them every time you encounter them. Evil teams don't care about logic, they care about creating a satisfying game experience.

That can be turned off in the options if you wanted to.

Still think it would be odd though, would make more sense to me if it was to battle a legendary Pokemon or something.

I know. I turn it off. Doesn't matter. In some pocket universe in Pokemon, that's par for the course. There is no common sense in Pokemon, or any games. Bosses still have minions. You usually have to power through hundreds of them. If they were truly evil, they'd just sick them all on you are the same time while fighting you, right? No, of course not.

I didn't mean it just for evil leaders. That was just one example. But I definitely think there are cases where evil teams could utilize it to show that they're a real threat and introduct an admin or leader without undermining their stregnth.

I think it could be used for legendaries and strong wild Pokemon too. It would be a cool way to maybe introduce a strong catchable Pokemon like with the Snorelax fight in RBGY, and GSC... and FRLG... and HGSS... and X... and Y... and make them significantly overleveled, so when catch it, the accomplishment is greater. Not only do you have a new crazy strong Pokemon, but you would actually have to fear it whiping out your team before you catch it.

Same with legendaries. Even though I have strong feelings against catching them (the idea of capturing Gods that keep the natural balance of the world doesn't sit well with me), needing to throw out 3 of your Pokemon to deal with something like Giratina because it's so powerful would make the whole thing feel more epic. And it would make legendaries feel strong, because right now, they're little bitches when it comes to story mode.
