Forums - Nintendo - What do you want from Pokemon gen 7?

"Now we can play Xenoblade Chronicles on the New Nintendo 3DS XL, and...now, this may sound a little egotistical, but I thought, 'This is really going to raise the bar for RPGs on portable devices.'" - Takahashi

This. Like I've been saying, and like Takahashi reinforced here, if we're getting games like this now, the next generation of Pokemon has a new bar set for it with this game. With the next handheld, this game will be left in the dust when it comes to potencial. Gamefreak needs to get serious about taking advantage of that potencial.

And the attack animations need a serious step up. They simply are not good. Take a page from something like the Naruto fighting games. They know how to make fantastic cel-shaded attack animations.

You're definitaly not dreaming to big. It's where Pokemon needs to evolve. And you're right on the money about no random encounters. JRPGs left that behind decades ago. It's not good game design. It's a concept that has been dropped by nearly every relevant JRPG franchise, some even decades ago. Mother dropped it in Mother 2, SMT dropped it in SMT IV, and I don't even know if FF ever had it. They need to go. The tech will be there to just use the battle models in the overworld. There's absolutely no reason for them anymore.

One other thing though is that Pokemon seriously needs to drop HMs. Nobody likes them. All they do is limit the team you can have. Just give the Pokemon passive abilities like with Mega Lati@s and Soar. And don't tie it to an item. Every Pokemon that can use the move Fly this generation should just have the Soar ability next generation. And fast travel shouldn't be tied to any Pokemon at all.

Just create an NPC who always carries an Abra or something with him. He appears in every town and every route, and all you need to do is call him or use an item and it will instantly teleport you to where you want to be. No reason any Pokemon slot should be reserve for something that should be a key part of literally any game with a large map.

Quite the opposite actually. Game Freak get their money from software sales so that is what they want to maximise. If they release on 3DS then they are looking at 4-5m week one. If they release on the new handheld those kind of sales just won't be possible due to the small installbase.

You are severely underestimating how many people would buy a new system just for a new Pokemon. Answer: Nearly every Pokemon fan. They'd get their sales a plenty.

- Smoother transitions into battle (sort of like Fire Emblem if)
- Better Story (ugh, long overdue)
- Difficulty level changer (to balance the broken EXP share)
- Not too many new Pokemon but mix up the region's Pokemon (like XY)
- Better graphics and faster loading times (if on next handheld)
- Co-op play? (would be interesting, not necessary)
- More saves (not necessary either, but would be nice)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the EXP share. The issue is that the levels don't scale to take that into consideration. With a hard mode, they need to make it so that you can never be at a higher level than the gym leaders or something. The inherant flaw in every RPG with reguards to difficulty is that you can over level yourself. So they can either make it artificially hard by making enemies at a much higher level than you, which means you have to grind, which is boring and repetitive, or all the enemies are too underleveled, and the game is a cake.

SMT levels your party exactly like EXP share does. No one says they're too easy. The problem isn't the EXP share. It's level scaling and it's AI intelligence and move sets.

If Pokemon wants to be difficult, they need to keep the EXP Share. It's not OP, it's convenient. They need to make sure NPC trainers have much better AI, and they need to make sure that Pokemon from trainers have much better movesets. The difficulty option in B2W2 was an absolute joke. The Battle Frontier is real difficulty in Pokemon. Why? Because the Pokemon had better stats, better moves, and the AI had better brains. None were at a higher level than the player. That should be no different during the single player on a harder difficulty.

I also don't agree about multiple saves in Pokemon. To me, it destroys all immersion that the Pokemon you train matter if you can have multiple saves of the same game. If you want to willingly break that immersion for yourself, you should have to jump through hoops and pay extra to do it aka buy an extra game. Multiple saves stand in stark contrast to the core fundementals of Pokemon.

People can't buy the systems if Nintendo hasn't manufactured them yet though.

By the time Gen 7 is out, the next handheld will likely be out as well.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the EXP share! I used it in Y + AS and made it so much easier that I enjoyed it more.

Mainly, this is to be added for those who want a more of a challenge without having to disable the exp share

Something else I'd love to see are like 2v1 or even 3v1 fights where the player is massively under leveled compared to the opponent, so the player must send out multiple Pokemon to even compete. That would be an awesome way to introduce the, say, evil Team leader, and even allow the player to fight and defeat them without making him/her look like a little bitch that got beat by a kid.

For example, let's say in Pokemon Red, you meet Giovanni for the first time. He says he has been following your antics thus far, and wants to test your strength. He sends out only one Pokemon, a massively over leveled Rhyhorn, and you're forced to send out three of your Pokemon at the same time just to stand a chance.

After you beat him, it's not like you feel like "Wow, Giovanni's a little bitch." You think "Holy shit, no wonder this guy is their leader. He's that strong with only one Pokemon. If he used his whole team, he would have absolutely whooped me."

Then the next time you face him, you guys are on equal ground level wise. Your both fighting 1v1, battling with a full team of 6. When you beat him again, even if it was easy, the impression isn't "Wow, Giovanni's a little bitch," it's "Wow, I've gotten way stronger since the last time."

A 2 year break (2017) before the next Pokemon game.

Yeah. Unfortunately, for now, we're stuck with self imposed challenges. I always make sure to change my battle settings to "Set," for example. The game is much less easy simply by doing that, since you completely lose the ability to change Pokemon after you defeat one, and you also don't know what's coming next until it's too late. Another rule I have is to respect the same rules that are used when batting a real person. In other words, unless you're catching a Pokemon, you can't touch your bag in battle for any reason. No healing. No reviving.

Most of the reason anyone thinks the games are too easy is because they are allowed to get away with shit that would be straight up cheating against a real human being. The new EXP Share doesn't make anything easier. All it does is eliminate grinding.

Ka-pi96 said:

That seems like it wouldn't really make sense. I mean then the player character would just be cheating to win, especially odd when you consider the bad guys were the ones fighting fairly. If the player is gonna cheat then surely the bad guys would cheat just as much if not more than the player.

Reminded me of this comic XD:

I'm not picky, but a hard mode would be appreciated. I love exploring the game world and catching new Pokemon, but the easy difficulty bores me at times. An ultimate post-game challenge like defeating Red would be awesome too.

Past that, bring back the option to let Pokemon to follow you from HG/SS, the customizable avatar from X/Y, and the Dexnav from AS/OR, and I'll be a happy cat.
