That can be turned off in the options if you wanted to.

Still think it would be odd though, would make more sense to me if it was to battle a legendary Pokemon or something.

I know. I turn it off. Doesn't matter. In some pocket universe in Pokemon, that's par for the course. There is no common sense in Pokemon, or any games. Bosses still have minions. You usually have to power through hundreds of them. If they were truly evil, they'd just sick them all on you are the same time while fighting you, right? No, of course not.

I didn't mean it just for evil leaders. That was just one example. But I definitely think there are cases where evil teams could utilize it to show that they're a real threat and introduct an admin or leader without undermining their stregnth.

I think it could be used for legendaries and strong wild Pokemon too. It would be a cool way to maybe introduce a strong catchable Pokemon like with the Snorelax fight in RBGY, and GSC... and FRLG... and HGSS... and X... and Y... and make them significantly overleveled, so when catch it, the accomplishment is greater. Not only do you have a new crazy strong Pokemon, but you would actually have to fear it whiping out your team before you catch it.

Same with legendaries. Even though I have strong feelings against catching them (the idea of capturing Gods that keep the natural balance of the world doesn't sit well with me), needing to throw out 3 of your Pokemon to deal with something like Giratina because it's so powerful would make the whole thing feel more epic. And it would make legendaries feel strong, because right now, they're little bitches when it comes to story mode.
