Quantity =/= Quality

When most of the remastered games are the cream of the crop the quantity kinda does equal quality.

Not really. GTAV and TLOU won hundreds of GOTY awards. How many did the remasters of those two win?

Remasters are to make money and being a remastered game there will be two potential buyers those who had the game before and those who didn't.

They add to the library while that can be more valueble to someone who hasn't played the game and can even be nice for those who no longer have the system or just wanted to upgrade. They can also build a bigger audience for a sequel when it will be comeing to the same platform.

Plus in cases where they are done well they add content like a game of the year edition as well as better performance/ visuals

A new game will have even more potential buyers...

Quantity =/= Less Quality

If all of the new games out seem like shit then thats unfortunate but remasters have nothing to do with that. Its not like we can say if X or Y remaster wasn't made, Uncharted would be out now or The Order would have been a better game lol. Its like blaiming Indies for weak AAA performance. Remasters are merely an optional addition to the console line up, in their absence we would be recieving nothing. At most maybe a game by the team releasing 2 months earlier

Its a cop-out. Instead of making a new game, they just repaint an old one. People who think its great only gives them more of a reason to keep doing it. What if repainting them becomes too much? Maybe they can just port PS3 games and charge 50$ for them. I mean many might not have played the PS3 version after all...and we wouldnt want them to miss out, now would we? Lets all hold hands and pray for world peace everyone.

No, your on the right track, lets all complain about Sony's second remaster in 2 years, LOL!!!

I'm not sure how remasters can win awards when they already had their releases and awards given before... They already had their time in the spotlight. That wow factor isn't there anymore, aside from visual improvements...

Exactly. They add nothing.

Oh I know, there are SOOOOO many companies coming out with remasters. Its like I see about 1 remaster every 4 months. Its getting OUT OF CONTROL!!!

Good:
1. It prolongs the lives of those games.
2. It allows people who didn't have access to the games before to play them.

Bad:
None.

I have no problems with remasters if they are done well.

My problem is the pricing for these games.

Remasters should be no more than $20.00 but if you own the previous version, it should be $5.
Like what was done with Minecraft. That game continues to sit on the top 10 chart month after month.
